ZSB Wish List 3 pages: [1] 2 3

Last Edited: 3.16PM 16 Jan 2010 (Australia WST)

I thought I would start a wish list thread that maybe the mods want to sticky and use as a feedback tool for future enhancements of ZSB. I am not sure how often the ZSB code is looked at and/or if the developers of ZSB frequent these forums but I still think it could be helpful.

Please keep your wish items realistic.

OK here is the list of wish list items from all posts below (I will update this as new posts are made). This list is simply in order of wish list items have been provided, plus mine Smile;

Please if any of these are actually already available and I have not yet had a chance to check please let me know so I can strike it out as done Smile

1. Random Sort option
2. Multiple keyword options (AND or OR options)
3. Store include list (so only the stores listed are included in feeds)
4. Store exclude list (so the stores listed are not shown in feeds)
5. Search title only option
6. Ability to use Zazzle's image zoom like they do on category and product pages. (possible solution - http://blog.insidiousdesign.org/2010/11/zsb-where-did-zoom-go.html)
7. More options such as sort by "Most Popular Last 30 days, Week, All Time"
8. After viewing an item over at Zazzle a return link back to the ZSB site
9. Ability to pull special offers and coupon info to include on the ZSB site
10. Ensure all users are notified of new ZSB versions, users may opt to continue to use the older version with no 'formal' support.
11. More interactive support/assistance/comments from Zazzle team on the forums.
12. Filter options and rating settings (family friendly etc Use PG-13 and R etc should be available for those who want it. )
13. Performance - PHP coding - replace all instances of split with preg_split
14. Store Builder - sort by price options
15. Better SEO friendly URLs. (improved in ZSB 1.5) so is this resolved or do you feel more needs to be done to improve it further?
16. Option to limit the number of pages generated for product selects, e.g. most popular.

So what do you wish ZSB to have?

Cheers

Your's are good ones but not to rain on your parade but there was talk about an updated version of the ZSB, a year later and we've nothing more on it and waiting for it. It would be nice to have those features but it looks like we'll have to figure out how to do it on our own if we want any added features.

But incase I'm wrong and Zazzle is/will release an updated version here are a couple of ideas . . .

Ability to use Zazzle's image zoom like they do on category and product pages.

More options such as sort by "Most Popular Last 30 days, Week, All Time"

After viewing an item over at Zazzle a return link back to the ZSB site

Ability to pull special offers and coupon info to include on the ZSB site

Could probably think of more but that's it for now.

FNolan, while I agree with you the fact is that man requests (from what I have read) could have been asked in a better way. However at the same time I do agree more needs to be done by the Zazzle team on these forums.

My hope, especially now that this thread has been stickied, is that everyone will post what they would 'wish' for in an updated ZSB. Then hopefully (please Zazzle team make a comment) the ZSB developers will use this list in a positive way and further develop the ZSB system.

I like your wish items, they can be good, I will add them to the first post so we can see a full list.

I do have one added wish.

6. Maintain older versions of ZSB. While updates to ZSB will be great please when doing updates consider that there might be many still using older versions of ZSB, please keep that in mind and continue to make sure that older versions of ZSB continue to work and/or ensure every means is made for anyone using ZSB to be notified of any updates.

I only agree with part of this.
"Ensure every means is made for anyone using ZSB to be notified of any updates."

The rest is so *constrictive* on the code and the requests recommended here.
A *new version* with added features and functionality is ok with me.
Just notify people using it there is a new version available.

If you have an older version - just update it for new and additional features.

2 Cents.

Fair enough, but there arguements for both sides. E.g. I might not want the new features if the new version results were loaded slower due to more hoops the system may need to go through.

I guess the best way will be for them to notify everyone of the 'new version' and then leave it up to the people to decide what to use, but make a note that older versions are no longer supported. But that brings back the support issue, where support is provided by users and not the zazzle team - so there is a wish list item - more interactive online support from zazzle via the forums.

Awesome list!

I've only just started playing with the ZSB but one thing that I would love to be able to do is filter out the r-rated stuff/swear words and have a site totally suitable for general viewing.

Only problem with zazzle's updates are that there not really updates, there redo everythingdates.
When zsb rolled out, everytime there was an update or change, you had to change all your pages and files just about.

So my only request is, if there ever is an update, ..........

Make it an update, and not a complete rework!

#1 request for me would be the ability to be able to pull PG-13 and R-Rated Images from Zazzle.
Right now, I can't do that.
This is a very important issue for me.

Does number 12 in the list of the first post in this thread cover that?

I am updating that first post each time a new wish item is added.

It needs to be more plainly stated (I think).
PG-13 and R should be available for those who want it.

Hi guys..

Great thread.. I would like the zoom feature, but not at an expensive bandwidth or time cost..

In my implementation of the zsb, I have noticed that the function: split is deprecated in p_hp 5.3. To avoid pesky deprecation notices in your local dev environments and to improve compatibility with future versions of p_hp, I recommend the changes listed below..

Replace all instances of split with preg_split, which per the p_hp docs is often faster. That said, zsb's use of split is trivial and I expect any time gains would be unnoticeable.. Here's what to change:

line 215, change
$gridPages = split( ',' , $_GET['gridPage'] );
to
$gridPages = preg_split( '(,)' , $_GET['gridPage'] );

line 221, change
$gridNumberParts = split( '_', $gridPage );
to
$gridNumberParts = preg_split( '(_)', $gridPage );

line 243, change
$gridSort = split(',', $_GET['gridSort'] );
to
$gridSort = preg_split('(,)', $_GET['gridSort'] );

line 248, change
$gridSortValueParts = split('_', $gridSortVal );
to
$gridSortValueParts = preg_split('(_)', $gridSortVal );

line 302, change
$gridNumberParts = split( '_', $pg );
to
$gridNumberParts = preg_split( '(_)', $pg );

line 311, change
$gridSortNumberParts = split( '_', $sort );
to
$gridSortNumberParts = preg_split( '(_)', $sort );

line 347, change
$gridSortNumberParts = split( '_', $sort );
to
$gridSortNumberParts = preg_split( '(_)', $sort );

Happy Zazzling Smile)

Hi. Don't know if it's worth posting on here, but I would love...

to be able to sort my products in price order (high to low OR low to high

using the store builder

cheers

I wish it would create more SEO friendly URLs.

I also wish there was an option to limit the number of pages generated. So, say I want to pull back the most popular items from the market place, but I want it to stop after 10 pages.

Agreed. That's a show-stopper for some.

I'd like the ZSB to include shortcodes for WordPress and other CMSes, instead of having to go to a third-party plugin to use it in a blog.

FYI, with a little bit of work, you can get the zoom working with your store:

Ability to pull from International sites and display in local currency

Hey all,

Great list of suggestions! Most of these will actually need to be implemented in our feeds for ZSB to be able to use. Sorting, international, PG-13 and R rated products, limit sellers, etc. all need to be supported in our feeds first.

That being said, there is an updated version of ZSB (version 1.5) that is in testting right now that includes many new features, including the following (taken from the README file):

1. Built-in local Product Page option (SEO)
- META description
- META keywords
- Friendly URLs (using .htaccess files)
- Related Twitter stream (shows 10 latest tweets based on first tag of product)
- Embed Code box for visitors to copy/paste into their websites/blogs
- Zoom popup for larger product view
- Configurable website link on product page
- Related products

2. Easier Grid Layout
- Now supports n number of products per row
- Fluid layout option. Product grid will expand/contract according to browser size.

3. Full Titles and Descriptions (SEO)
- Product titles now wrap and do not get cut off
- Full vs. shortened descriptions

4. Simple local RSS feed support (merchandising)

5. Bug fixes (keywords, cache names, input sanitization)

6. Added fix for Cross Site Scripting (XSS) vulnerability

Keep watching this thread for news on a release or expanded testing.

Great news, thanks.
Will look forward to hearing more.

Can't wait to try it out. Thanks for the update.
I'm encouraged that you mentioned PG-13 and R rated products.
Posted: Thursday, December 02, 2010 10:50:07 PM
Just want to clarify that I have no idea what will and won't be supported in our feeds in the future. I'm just saying that for ZSB to be able to do certain things, the feeds have to do them first. Now, carry on Smile

Who are the "feeds gods" we need to pray to for PG13 and R rated images? Smile
Let me know and I'll bake them some Christmas cookies.

Figure I'll post in here as well, but is there a way I can make links so customers can navigate my store like Zazzle? The Store builder just puts out a grid of products and only has "date created" and "popular" to choose from. I would like to build a fully functional store with links to different product types. I'm not sure why this wasn't implemented to begin with, but I would really love to see that in the future.

Thanks for the update ! Any ETA on when we might have these additions ? Do you need anyone to help test it offsite ? I'm offering if needed Grin

If you use wordpress and the zstore plugin you can make a page for each product type.

Sorry all been away, anyway the list has been updated, I have not yet had a chance to play with ZSB 1.5 myself as it is still not yet out (any beta testing?) but if anything on the list is now resolved please add here and I will strike it off the list.

Either way I think the list here is helping to get the requests heard Smile

I will also make sure I visit more to keep it updated Smile

Cheers all

I agree, this should be a 'priority', if i'm looking for something (outside zazzle), and can't find a flag or other option to convert prices to GBP immediately, i go elsewhere, maybe i'm just lazy, but there must be a few potential buyers like me out there!

I have the same request as Kaizen04. I don't use wordpress on would like to sort products like in my store. Also setting up landing pages for google adwords campaigns. I'm sure that some html pros can do it, but for the rest of us who only know enough to get by, that would be nice.

Absolutely agree!

My store is for a Canadian Non-Profit organization and we want to be able to have the prices displayed in Canadian funds as well as have the links go to zazzle.ca instead of zazzle.com.
