NiftyGridz WP plugin in Public Release - with search and storefront mode!
Posted: Tuesday, June 06, 2017 3:43:16 PM
Shocked It's out - my NiftyGridz WordPress plugin is now on public release!
http://www.niftytoolz.com/the-niftygridz-wordpress-plugin

Who's it for?
Anyone with a self-hosted WordPress blog/site

What does it do?
It gives an extremely quick and simple way of putting product grids on your self-hosted WordPress site/blog - add one to your blog post or page in a matter of seconds!

And for those wanting to build a complete storefront, it covers that, too.

Benefits
As well as what you'd expect from a product grid plugin, here are some benefits you'll love:
Love You could really boost your referral commission / sales: NiftyGridZ are 100% mobile, tablet and desktop friendly. If you didn't know, now more than half of internet use is on mobile
Love You get fallback grids in case Zazzle feeds go down - never have empty / broken pages again!
Love Keep visitors engaged for longer - let them search with the built-in search form
Love Control freaks will love the hidden flexibility, the rest of us will love the simplicity of the sensible defaults!
Love Try at no cost, for as long as you like - this option uses my referral id but see bonus, below
http://niftytoolz.com/the-niftygridz-wordpress-plugin

Features
o Choose as little or as much info as you want displayed with each product
o Totally flexible where you get the products from: store, market place or collection
o All Zazzle methods for choosing them are supported, too (department, category, search)
o Fully supports referral ids, tracking codes and promo codes
o Previous / next navigation on product grids when you allow visitor search
o Define your own fallback grids
o A helper (shortcode builder) page lets you set up, use and save the settings you want
o Works in widgets, posts and pages - you choose where you want them
o You can exclude the Zazzle-added product names in titles if you want. This is useful when you repurpose a product. Let's say you use business cards to make wedding table cards. You don't want titles like "Pearl table cards business cards", do you?
o BONUS - when you get any of the premium licenses, not only will your new links use your referral id - all previous links will, too!

Here's an example of a NiftyGridZ two-product grid with price, description, tags and inbuilt visitor search form.
You decide what's initially displayed via your shortcode. Then your visitor can browse the grid with the arrows or they can search for different designs.

Try one out for yourself, here: http://niftytoolz.com/example-store-page

Another Zazzler has been kind enough to test out the storefront aspects of NiftyGridZ Roses

Feedback was great. One suggestion, and I'll implement it next, is the ability to have a page number and pagination at the top of the grid when using it as a storefront.
I need to think it through first, so don't hold your breath!

Storefront mode is where you set up a page template with all your navigation, graphics, banners etc and leave a "hole" for a product grid.

Your navigation etc then just passes the right parameters to NiftyGridZ (via url parameters) and your visitor sees the right products in your grid.

Today I have been mostly building a Superhero Store as a fully fledged demo.

NiftyGridZ deals with everything inside the white area, my template pages (one per each link shown under the banner) deal with the grey area. Doing it this way makes it super easy to make the dropdowns specific to available products.
http://niftytoolz.com/superhero-store-harry-potter

Feedback received is to see if I can add a Page N of N instead of just the page number between the arrows. I'll work on that.

Meantime, please have a look and let me know what you think.
ThanksRoses
PS It looks great and works wonderfully on mobile!

Thanks to feedback received, I've now added a page "n of nn" to the grid browser navigation.

I've also changed it so that those navigation arrows stay on display - even if the search form is hidden.

If there's more than 17 pages of results (at the current page size) it says "n of many".

Why 17? Dunno, I was feeling arbitrary

A slight tweak - now if there's more than 20 pages it says 20+

It looks really good - and still great on mobile!

I must be close to the last bit of tweaking. The latest is to allow 'storefront' mode to work with collections. In essence, the answer is: don't show a search form and don't show product grid navigation.

So I added a shortcode option to allow the product grid navigation to be hidden (shortcode helper page is updated in line with that addition).

Until Zazzle treat an rss feed pulled form a collection in the same way as when pulling from a store or the marketplace that's the best that can be done.)

Now I've done this, watch in the "Affiliating theory, advice and generating traffic" forum for a silly competition to have your collection featured on a dedicated store. It'll have a page similar to: http://niftytoolz.com/superhero-store-harry-potter where your collection will be available in a drop down. I'm not sure how many to show from each collection but I'm thinking maybe 24 max??

Anyway, watch that space!
Happy promoting!

If your more than mildly interested, when pulling from the market place or a store, you can use a search term, choose to pull by popularity or date created, sort ascending or descending, pull by department and category.
You can't do any of those things when pulling from a collection. If we could, we'd also need to be able to pull by "current order", a new thing.

As per my last post above, I've been preparing a "collections" storefront for the coming bit of promotion fun.

The skeleton is ready as you can see here: http://niftytoolz.com/collections-store-boudoir-and-bath but I still need to sort out a better background image.

You can probably tell by the link that the first set of collections I'll be looking for are to have a theme of:
boudoir and bath
and, later, I'll do other collection themes.

If you want to take part, watch out for an upcoming announcement in the Affiliating theory... forum.

Hi mark, you are doing an awesome job with nifty. I haven't tried the new WP features as I've been setting up a website using your normal nifty grids, which are great. I'll look into this further down the track a little, but encourage anyone, if you haven't used nifty to stream products into various platforms, get on board, it's a great product with fantastic support.

I'm glad you're getting along with it so well, thanks for saying so Roses

If you have any specific Nifty questions, just shout on the Nifty topic and I'll answer there. Or email me through my store contact. Either is fine Smile

I tested this out on my wordpress site and it works really well, and that it works with collections is awesome. That's something the original Zstore plugin will never have since it's no longer being developed. Nice job! Happy

I've spent today adding shortcode options that let you sort the product grid after its contents have been pulled from Zazzle. Yes, even for collections 👍

You can sort by:

️✅ In the same order as returned by Zazzle: grid_sort_method="pulledorder" (the default)
️✅ Date product created: grid_sort_method="date"
️✅ Product title: grid_sort_method="title"
️✅ Price: grid_sort_method="price"
️✅ By-line: grid_sort_method="byline"

and this can be high-to-low or the other way round - it's ignored if the method used is "pulledorder":

️✅ grid_sort_direction="highlow"
️✅ grid_sort_direction="lowhigh"

This could be a gamechanger for collections!

And, just to prove it, later, I'll be changing my promo fun (see Aff. theory forum) collections storefront to take advantage. I'm most interested in letting a visitor sort by price so they can work to a budget, if need be.

I've added the sort by price to the collections promo page now.

I've added a particularly magical new set of shortcode options that allow your visitors (in storefront mode) to type in their initials and have them displayed on your designs.

To see what I mean, try your intitials here: niftytoolz.com/collections-girl-about-town

The sleight-of-hand comes about via the template text items I added when I designed the products. You know when you're designing and you set a text item to be a template item? One thing you're given is a "URL Parameter name" choice. The first time it defaults to text0 and the next one that you set up defaults to text1 and so on.

Each one of the products you see comes from a collection I set up to contain designs where I'd used a "URL Parameter name" of text0 for the monogram initials template text (white lie, see below).

The place-holder promo page lets you type your initials and then it does some jiggery-pokery to get the template text changed to what you typed, then displays the results in the product grid.

Neat!

I've a bit more testing to do before I release the new version of the NiftyGridZ plugin containing the magic fairy dust - tomorrow sometime?

Ok, white lie admission. No I wasn't consistent in my url paramater naming over the years. Many are done using text0 and some with text1
To allow for this, my place-holder page works by trying it on with both of them for what you type Smile

This is important because later I'll be asking peeps to submit their collections (where they've used either text0 or text1 for the initials) of monogrammed designs for the "Lady about town".

Watch the Affiliating Theory... forum for more - details coming in a few days time.

I've been tweaking again. This time improving the visitor experience for the inbuilt search form and product grid navigation.

With this tweak the grid will scroll back into view after a search or moving back or forward through a grid with its nav buttons.
It'll go out in the next public release due in the next week or so.

You can see it in action here: http://niftytoolz.com/the-niftygridz-wordpress-plugin
Scroll down a couple of screens to the product grid and then search or navigate through the grid to see it working.

I've released it already as I found I had introduced a bug that threw an error when a search returned zero results.

I've updated the download link in the usual place:
