Google Screen Message ?
Posted: Saturday, January 05, 2019 10:55:03 AM
While in Safari working on creating new teddy bear product design (when in the done mode before ‘sell it’) this message popped up on my screen:

“Google Software Update.app“ wants access to control “System Events.app“. Allowing control will provide access to documents and data in “System Events.app“, and to perform actions within that app.

Is this safe? Can anyone fill me in about this message or send me to someone who can?
I’m very apprehensive because I’ve already had some major computer problems when downloading pop-up messages from an internet page.

I was not sure where to put this question, Please move if necessary.

Thanks! Kati

Edit: I’m on Mac 10.14.2 and Safari 12.02

That is highly unusual and sounds like something you should definitely avoid. I think it might be coming from your computer or from your browser cache and not Zazzle.

If it were me I would immediately run a malware scan if you have software that will do that or clearing your browse cache might help.

Mind you, I am a Windows PC person and don't know too much about Macs, but I am suspicious of that message!

Update:
I did some research on this and found this article.

https://www.labnol.org/internet/google-software-update-control-computer/28408/

I also read that if you have recently updated to Mohave OS the built in antivirus is much more beefy than the previous OS and can cause third party software issues in being able to run on your Mac.

hope this helps!

Thanks Shelli,

Since I upgraded to Mohave OS a few weeks ago that may be the problem. However, I’m very leary of google having control of anything on my computer.

This may also be related to the problem of not being able to replace banner on collection when using Safari (as was brought up in two other threads) and also why Zazzle has not enabled the new design tool for Safari. I’m still using the old design tool.

Guess I will just wait until Zazzle tech team can add more information.

Thanks again

We will pass this onto our team to investigate. Can you get a screenshot of the pop up if possible? Thanks!

Similar issue, but on a different browser (Chromium)
https://bugs.chromium.org/p/chromium/issues/detail?id=307568

This post in particular seems applicable:
Quote:
You're seeing it now probably because pre-Mavericks settings for this do not persist into Mavericks, so you have to re-authorize. Apple discusses this if you click on the ? icon in the lower left corner of the alert dialog asking you to grant access.
Mavericks is an older version of the MacOS (it's from ~2013) but if you just updated your operating system then the same idea holds true - application permissions are not carried over from the old operating system into the new operating system, so you'll need to re-authorize.

I have been trying to reproduce this working in both Chrome and Safari (macOs Mojave). Has not reoccured. Either it was a hoax or it fixed itself.

Just thought I would report. Kati
