Collection Tags Problem
Posted: Sunday, January 20, 2019 7:58:50 AM
Scott,

You may wish to add the following bug to your running list of 'Known Issues'.

Issue: Multi-word tags in some collections are being parsed by the system into single word tags including such words as 'of' being treated as an individual tag. Then, some keywords are dropped off despite the tag list extending beyond five. This apparently has been going on since before Christmas but is probably going unnoticed by a lot of Zazzlers until they edit a collection or it is called to their attention.

I am not the only Zazzler experiencing this; others have confirmed the problem. See the following Forum link: https://forum.zazzle.com/gallery/collection_tags_change_in_policy_jan_14_2019?

Example: Collection Tag Woes Note Well: The collection has now been updated and published. Re-entered tags seem to be sticking... at least for now.

Just confirming that I have noticed it as well - not all collections have had this issue, but just some. I have re-edited the ones I found to get the tags back to their original multi-word status and it seems to be sticking for now, but this is requiring lots of time to check every collection and edit.

Yes! I checked after reading the above topic and it has happened with the collections I checked.

Hey all, thanks for flagging.
I've passed this over to tech to follow up on Smile

This should be fixed.

Umm, Scott... Only sorta fixed. Yes, now the words in multi-word tags stay together BUT they are enclosed within quotation marks as other Zazzlers have noted in the following thread:

Quote characters now included as part of quoted product tags?

That's not the way it should or used to work!

Thanks, Saints_Aplenty! This is being worked on and will hopefully be resolved soon! Grin

Technically speaking, this bug was fixed.

The quotes appearing in collection tags is a different issue that engineers are currently discussing how to best handle.

Once all the work is complete tags (for products and for collections) should work exactly as you would expect.

Still seeing the multi-worded tags showing up with the quotes around them. Makes it hard to add tags to products. Crying

I created two new collections yesterday, and one of them displayed multi-word tags with double quotation marks. The other was fine.

I checked again. It seems that they are all fixed now.

Any idea if this broke again?

Boho Butterfly Collection

Here's my collection, from just last night. I only added a banner this morning, 4/19/19, at 8:12AM EST.

When I look in the edit section, it has seven separated tag words. I only added five tags last night.
And, could this be because I'm used to using the plus sign instead of quotes?

I don't expect this to be broken.

What action did you take?
What are you expecting to happen?
What actually happened?

I don't know what you entered. All I know is what I see now. Perhaps give it a bit of time for the collection to be indexed and perhaps it'll straighten itself out.

I just checked several of my collections after just now reading this, and all of them were separated into single tags for the multi word tags that I had put in there.

I have noticed the problem of multi-word Collection tags "falling apart" or parsing for several months now and it is still ongoing, both on some of my older collections and many of my latest ones created only a week or so ago. It hasn't happened to all of my collections. It's aggravating because the parsed words are meaningless on their own. Also, I was wondering if, say, the tags separate into a dozen parsed words, do those become a dozen meaningless tags? Or do only the first five meaningless words apply to searches? This really is a problem because most people wouldn't notice it unless editing a collection; most of us have many collections we now should check (I have over 100);and dealing with tags is time consuming and not much fun. I pretty much have to erase all of the parsed words and start over to get my original five tags. Thanks!

I don't know if this will help any of you but when I add a phrase tag Instead of quotations or plus signs I always use commas to separate them and I just checked a whole bunch of my collection tags but could not find any that have fallen apart.

You might try that and see if it helps.

I do the same thing as you, Shelli, separating them with just commas and no quotation marks or plus signs. I just checked some of mine, and some have the phrase tags separated into single word tags and some don't. I don't know what the percentage is, as I did not check all of them. This is going to take a while to fix all of them, and I sure hope they stick.

I just went in and fixed 2 pages worth of collections tags. I have a lot more to do. Seems like a good 80% of them are messed up. This is going to take a while, and I sure hope my changes stick.

Thanks, I'll try this!

So far so good as far as the changes made to my collections tags sticking is concerned. Now I have to do that rest. I have a total of 174 collections and I have edited 40. At least a small number of them are fine.
