USA and International Referrals

All of my referral links are from zazzle.com. I get a lot of international traffic. So when someone from Germany or Australia clinks on one my links and makes a purchase, I do not make a refferal. Correct?

If a customer clicks your link, with your RFID# attached, and they have cookies enabled, you will earn a referral if they make a purchase regardless of where they live. The only thing International earnings inhibit is a rise in Pro status.

I was reading the How to Build Referral Links article at:
https://help.zazzle.com/hc/en-us/articles/115002533768-How-to-Build-Referral-Links

At the end of the article it says: "Please note that when you link to a particular Zazzle domain, you will only earn a referral when the purchase is completed on that domain."

So the question is, if you live in Australia and click on my zazzle.com link. Are you automatically transferred to the www.zazzle.com.au website to complete the transaction?

ok yeah, that is right. I don't know what I was thinking about when I replied.
I don't know if auto-directs happen. Maybe someone will have the answer.
I am off to get more coffee to wake my brain up!

Hi John,

Great question. At this time, we don't support cross-domain tracking. However, if you are driving traffic to a particular page on your site where you link to Zazzle, you can create a separate link for each domain and advise the customer to select the domain that suits them best.

Thank you and hope this helps.

Best,
Elizabeth P.

Thank you Elizabeth, that's what I figured. Already started on links for each domain.

Would a link to the page listing all domains and/or an International banner not work for your site?
Find the banner on the Associates Banners page...probably midway down.

Hope all is well!

I wanted to follow up on this thread to clarify that a link to the international page would not work in this case because we don't support cross domain tracking at this time. For example, if a customer arrives on the Zazzle international page via a Zazzle.com referral link, and then chooses to go to Zazzle.co.uk to purchase their products, the referral would not be tracked since the customer is switching from one domain to the other.

@Gina - thank you for flagging the international banners. I believe these banners were created (back in 2013 or 2014) with the purpose of highlighting our international domains, and not to drive sales. I went ahead and removed them from the Associates banners page so there is no further confusion.

Thank you!

Best regards,

Elizabeth P.

There is a javascript way for determining someone's country based on their ip adress. Once you know that, you can programatically change your links to the right domain.

...oh, I should have added that you'd need a way of ensuring products that aren't available on international domains aren't included by the way you get the products. I guess you could use collections but it sounds like a lot of work.

I looked out my code for the zazzle domain lookup based on the visitor's ip-address but I don't have a solution for excluding those products only available on the .com domain.

Shout with your contact details if you're interested.

I'm in the UK and have purchased things from the US site. It does not redirect people automatically to their local domain. However, the shipping is more expensive, so people might prefer a link to their local site.

I just checked, if you have a link with an international zazzle domain to a product that isn't available on that domain, your visitor gets redirected to an appropriate page on the international domain.

For example, brownies aren't available outside the USA so this link:
https://www.zazzle.com/template_photo_colorful_boxes_dozen_brownies-256166850451550787
when changed to, say, a uk visitor's domain, you'd get this link:
Quote:
Code:
https://www.zazzle.[remove this forum software defeat] co.uk/template_photo_colorful_boxes_dozen_brownies-256166850451550787

(I had to add that [remove this forum software defeat] text because the forum sofware was automatically changing the .co.uk to .com - too clever for its own boots!)

If you could click that uk domain link, you'd be redirected to here:
Quote:
Code:

https://www.zazzle.[remove this forum software defeat] co.uk/party+gifts

That seems a sensible decision by Zazzle and I believe your referral cookie should be set in the visitor's browser under such circumstances, as well as when the product is available on the international domain.

Maybe a Mod could confirm?
Anyway, I hope this helps Smile

Is there any chance that Zazzle will be able to cross domain track in the future?
Posted: Thursday, December 06, 2018 11:55:41 AM
@Highton - if you click on a referral link and it redirects you to another page on the same domain, then the referral ID will stay in your browser.

So if you click the link following link with a referral ID appended to get to Zazzle:
https://www.zazzle.[remove this forum software defeat] co.uk/template_photo_colorful_boxes_dozen_brownies-256166850451550787

And the get redirected to: https://www.zazzle.[remove this forum software defeat] co.uk/party+gifts

The browser will capture the referral ID.

Let me know if this answers your question.

@Shelli - Great question! I'm hoping we will be able to offer cross-domain tracking in future, but at this time, there isn't an ETA. The reason for this is that cross-domain tracking is fairly complex, and very few (if any) affiliate programs offer cross-domain tracking currently. We’ll definitely keep you posted on any updates.

Thank you!

Best,
Elizabeth P.
