Product Design Critique 5 pages: 1 2 [3] 4 5

I think with any design, but especially those that are photography-based, we need to ask ourselves, "What makes this special to the customer?" This goes beyond people liking flowers, cats, etc. and points to why text and image templates for personalizing product offerings continue to be emphasized here.

I'm terrible at figuring this out, but that doesn't make it any less true.

Thanks for the feedback Fuzzy and Shelli, I have removed all products featuring the "Black Cat in a Corner" photo design. I have also removed a couple of other photo designs that are either too dark and/or had sentimental ties.

That is a cute design with lots of potential. I only have one critique, a suggestion really and that is that you should add the colors to one of the tags and maybe also the word girly somewhere.

you don't have to change the tags so much, just add these words to tags that are already there. Like the tag "unicorn-art" could become "pink and purple unicorn art" you could add girly to the 6th tag for "girly unicorn horn drawing" etc.. this would help your design surface in searches for "pink and purple girly unicorns" more easily.

Thanks for the suggestions. I've been trying to remain gender neutral since men can like Unicorns just as much as women. The last sale I made with this design was on a pair of men's boxer shorts to a person in Germany.

However, I can understand that the draw will be geared more to females than males.

I don't know about adding Pink and Purple, the gradient used on the magic sparkles is actually a Pinky-red, white, & blue gradient.

Okay, well I just meant whatever the colors are they should be included as part of the description and tags whenever possible because many times they are part of a search term a shopper will use when looking for products.

Re: the boxer shorts it is possible that a woman bought them for herself. adding girly to the tags will not keep men from being able to find your design but it will help shoppers who use a search term like "girly" find you. The men or any shoppers will probably never even see the tags...

Adding: I noticed your half dome products with the text and they look really good!

Cool! I see a few things that I think could be improved:

1) The title. I understand from looking at it that this may be just a placeholder? That said: For search engines, titles can be more important than tags. So rather than using the formal title of a work it's important to work in the major keywords that will help people find the item. Here's one quick suggestion to get you started, which fits the 50 character limit:

Green Robed Alien Character Crystal Staff Sci-Fi

2) Maybe a different background color that provides better contrast - you could keep it green, just a lighter shade, so that the art itself *pops*.

3) At this size, his staff is a little hard to discern, next to the robe. So maybe adjusting the position of the staff, or making the robe less full. Small things like this can make a big difference.

4) I wouldn't change the overall size of the character. He's very imposing at the current size & position, which works well.

I love this design and it has great appeal! the only thing I can critique is the placement of the flower on this particular product. Maybe you could bring the flower head down just enough that the camera hole doesn't cut it off. Better to cut off the bottom of the stem than the flower at the top.

Also with your tags instead of repeating the word "tulip" so many times you could substitute a few of them with words like "pretty pink blooms and blossoms" "modern spring design" etc...

But really a nice design!

The background I can change. Adjusting the staff and the robes is impossible as that was how they looked in the template used to make him.

I was wondering if you could take him into PS or Gimp and maybe just lighten up the color of the staff a bit more golden which would make it stand out more. If you have one of those software programs that is...

I need your advice for this design. I don't know what to call it or how to describe it! Lol! I can't even tell you how it was created. It just evolved. But I kinda like it. Love Thank you in advance for any input. Love

Jana, I absolutely love this design. The only suggestion I might have is 2 additional tags...urban+cowgirl and rustic. Maybe rustic+country, which would cover each individually and together. The description is detailed and full of imagery. I like it.

I don't know Shelli, I get what you mean about the placement. But at the same time, It adds dimension, like it's supposed to be there. It's edgy.

Jaana, my only suggestion is maybe to brighten it up a little? There again, you may be going for that particular color tone and I get that. So I don't want to insert my opinion.

Me too and that is a shame because I really like this "tribal style" "symmetrical abstract" "wet paint" "bird wings" design in "girly colors" of "purple pink yellow and black"

I hope Jaana doesn't mind but I played with this design a little bit to illustrate my point.

I downsized the flower and moved it to the right and down so the camera hole is not cutting it off and that made room to add a name which always helps the appeal to a customer.

Nice! I am glad I could help. I do a lot of abstracts so I have some practice with tagging and describing them and back in my Instagram days I was the moderator of an abstract group where we used to do features every week. Abstract art is a passion of mine. Grin

I have 185 background designs I like to use with the transparency images. I like to use them all, but I'm also aware that some backgrounds just won't work with certain designs. And others won't work unless something is done to change the context of the background design. I do have a couple of images that I use to dampen the backgrounds as needed.

I don't want to spam my designs and I augment this by changing the title to include the name of the background. But even then, I can only really use so many.

If you see one with a background I will also include two variations. One with just the background included, and one with each of filter images on the background.

Here is an example of one

you have done a good job with this, the only suggestion I have is if you could add a tag like "daddy's a firefighter" or "firefigher daddy" and "fireman dad" If it were mine I would eliminate the tags "fire" and "fighter" and replace them with one of these to give weight to the fireman daddy theme.

I might also add the colors in a tag by modifying "binky" to "red and white binky"

That is all I have right now. hth
