E-books of your designs, each linked to their product page on Zazzle
Posted: Friday, December 14, 2018 12:41:27 PM
What's the point?

Is it vanity publishing? No! It's another marketing / promotional route. A very professional one, one which can extend your reach significantly:
✅ It will be searchable on Amazon, if you publish it there
✅ you might even sell some copies if people like it!

When it's on your Kindle (or other MOBI ebook reader), you've got a great way of displaying your wares:
✅ to people you meet in real life
✅ to online Kindle owners you know - by sending them your ebook

Be quick ⏳ - you've got 24 hours from the the time of this post!

I'm currently in the beta-test phase of producing the ebooks. They're really a continuation of the Nifty live-print catalog tool you might have heard of recently here on the forum. In the ebook, each included product design has a title and description, with the title linked (with referral id and tracking code) to its product page on Zazzle.

The first page also has a qrcode and link so it's really easy to show your Kindle to someone else and have them point their mobile at it to see the online web-page version. That way they can personalize/buy right away.

I have an example on Amazon (Marvel InfinityWars Poster art) but won't have a link until it's completed publishing (up to 72 hours). When it has I'll provide a link. At this stage, it's been assigned the ASIN number: B07LCTYYGW

Right now (and probably a long way into the future) there are some manual steps and other software involved in creating the ebook, so I'd have to do it for you. Once I go live with it, I'll be charging for the service. Somewhere around $15.

I need a collection from one lucky designer that I can use to prove the process
- but only if you own a Kindle.

The collection you suggest here (Kindle owners only!) needs to have more than, say, 40 of your own product designs - anywhere up to 240. You must be prepared to give me feedback on how it looks on your Kindle to be considered. When I'm choosing which to use, I'll be choosing from amongst those who respond quickest.

If I select yours, I'll let you know in a reply here and give you my email address so you can give me your referral id and a tracking code to use in the links.

The ebook I make for you will be in the right format to allow you to upload and publish on Amazon, if that's what you want to do. In any case, I'll give you a link so you can download it.

As evidenced by what I say next, I relinquish all copyright to that ebook to you, the owner of the product designs it contains.

🤓
Being an ebook, there's not much control over the layout etc but even so, it works really well.

If any of you have a Kindle, then you can download the ebook I created for Marvel's Infinity Wars here:
https://niftytoolz.com/npcp/ebooks/official-marvel-infinity-wars-art-posters.mobi

As you can see, it's in MOBI ebook format, so should work on ebook readers other than Kindles.

Does a Kindle Fire count? I have one of those.

Here is my collection submission if it does.

I don’t have a Kindle, but I have the Kindle app on my iPad Pro and your poster book looks great on it and also gives an option of a short url to click on to go directly to the ebook on Amazon or to scan the QR code with my phone.

If I've understood you right, no, that short url should open an equivalent page to the ebook on my website. Just to try and make sure all the options are covered for people using the ebook.
I can't think of what else it might be. But I can be dense Laughing

Ok, here's the link I promised to that ebook I published on Amazon: it'll open in a new window and take you into read mode:
https://read.amazon.co.uk/kp/embed?asin=B07LCTYYGW&preview=newtab&linkCode=kpe&ref_=cm_sw_r_kb_dp_ZrdfCbRFA8VN9

Thoughts please!

I did get some feedback from someone in the Nifty Toolz Fb group. They're using a Kindle paperwhite, so none of the images show in color Sad (I know kinda obvious!) BUT they pointed their Moto G3 (ie Android) camera at the QR code on the first page and it automatically recognised it and opened up the equivalent page on the web from which they could choose, personalize and buy, there and then.

I think that's cool. 😎

Yep. That’s what the link is. I just assumed when the book opened it was on amazon. I’m always doing that so you’d think I’d learn to pay closer attention by now. Grin

Very exciting. I already use Amazon for book publishing.

Am I too late for your testing? Looking forward to the launch.

No, not too late Smile You're still within the 24 hours.

Well, aint that just the thing. Something in the guts of the Zazle rss feed mechanism is broken when using collections.

And that means I can't go ahead with making any ebooks based on collections.
Crying

I was going to close this because the 24 hours is up but I'll extend it until further notice or until the feed mechanism is fixed.

I'm so embarrassed about this. I'd forgotten to remove the text part of the collection id when I was checking and it was the cause of the error. Crying

Hello HightonRidley. Sorry you are having trouble. I would like to withdraw my suggested collection as I have decided on other plans for the moment. Still interested in your brilliant application though so will watch its progress with interest. Cheers

Well, I can now go ahead and choose a winner. So easy, only one entry!
Congratulations AnotherFort!
I've got all the info I need to make the eBook so I'll drop off a link to somewhere you can download it from. Give me a couple of hours...

These links are for you, AnotherFort:

The Hepcat Diner - mobi format
The Hepcat Diner - epub format
When you click a link, your download will start right away.

Having both formats will give you the widest range of compatibility with ereaders generally. If you're going to upload to Amazon, I'd stick with the mobi format - that's the one I've been using.

Shout with any questions. I'd love to hear how it looks on your Kindle Fire when you get the chance Smile

Thanks for taking part Roses

Here's the QRCode from the back of AnotherFort's ebook:

Just for the heck of it, why not see if your mobile phone camera automatically recognises it.

All recent iPhones do and, I'm told, many Android ones should as well. The Moto 3G does, as reported by someone else.

If you do give it a go and it works, please, please, please reply here with the make / model of your phone / tablet that worked.

Thank you!

The QR code worked for me (but had to install a QR reader app for my phone)

My phone is:

MIX2
Android 7.0

I've been having a bit of a to-and-fro with the Amazon Kindle review team and finally got clarity from them. They only accept eBooks where you are the exclusive copyright owner of the content. It means you're fine with collections of your own designs but not those of others.

It makes total sense, so I'm glad to have got that ironed out so quickly. I'll update the various places I've mentioned the ZeBooC service.

Here you go! It worked on all these devices:

Samsung Galaxy J7 Sky Pro Phone - Android Vers. 6.0.1

Samsung Galaxy Tab A (Model SM-P550) - Android Vers. 7.1.1

Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1 2014 ed. (Model SM-P600) - Android Vers. 5.1.1

Asus Zen Book Flip (Model UX560UX) - Win 10 64-bit Home

Asus Zen Book Flip (Model UX561UD) - Win 10 64 bit Home

Have a Happy Christmas! I have greatly appreciated both the work you do on behalf of your fellow Zazzlers and the support you provide!

Just a side note. I had to rename the service (and store) to ZeBookFreeC because of a clash with the name of an Asian ebook reader.
