Announcing 31 New Paper Products
Posted: Friday, April 06, 2018 9:48:04 AM
Hi Designers,

Zazzle has had an long love affair with paper and we’re ready to make it public. From invitations to business cards, place cards to greeting cards and so much more, Zazzle is passionate about paper.

Since our launch, a lot has changed. Technology, retail and the way people shop has entirely transformed. Because of this, Zazzle has needed to evolve the way we surface our products to customers. After many years and millions of product listings, we are breaking out our paper product types so they are easier to find in the marketplace.

Paper is a highly versatile product. It can be a holiday card, a wedding invite, a sympathy note or a birth announcement. The role of paper changes based on how it’s used. By breaking out some of our largest paper types, Zazzle will be able to better place products within our department tree to help improve search and usability within the site.

The first product type we’ve migrated is ‘referral cards.’ Instead of just cataloging all cards of certain shapes and sizes as business cards, we’ve taken this first step of building out referral cards into its own category. We’ve taken about 1500 of these designs and reclassified them based on keywords. By separating these cards out from business cards, we’re making it a whole lot easier for shoppers to find them!!

This is just the first of thirty-one new product types that we’ll slowly be migrating in the coming weeks. We recognize that this first stage of building out referral cards and flat place cards won’t necessarily impact you unless you’ve specifically designed these types of cards in the past, but we wanted to give you some insight into what you’ll be seeing more of in the future.

This update is big! We hope it will help customers and designers alike and we hope you’re as excited about this improvement as we are!

If you have any questions about the paper breakout, please note them here and Monica will be doing a Zazzle Chat to further explain this paper break out and the impact it will have on Zazzle.

Hi Designers,

As a follow up to our paper announcement last week, we are revealing the first four of many new paper products.

1. Referral Cards:
2. Flat Place Card:
3. Appointment Cards:
4. Flat Loyalty Cards:

You will notice that though all the product types look like our business cards, but as the announcement stated, we are starting to break out designs based on their intention to better surface the best products for a customer in search. If you had previously created a referral card on business cards, based on a complex internal algorithm of keywords, product titles and certain design themes, Zazzle has already transferred your referral card designs on the business card product type to the new referral cards product type so you won't lose any rankings or placement in search.

Moving forward, if you are making a referral card, we recommend you publish them on referral cards, and not the business card product type. When customers search for place cards, we will be surfacing the new product type.

Again, we recognize that this first stage of building out these cards won't impact you unless you've designed this type of card in the past, but we wanted to give you some insight into what you'll be seeing more of in the future.

We hope you're as excited about this improvement, as well as the new paper products, as we are!

Happy designing!

Hi Designers!

Here is some information to keep you in the loop about new and current paper types and their envelopes.

For now, any paper products that previously came with envelopes will continue to automatically be provided with those products.

For new product types, you can opt out of receiving envelopes. If you don’t believe you’ll need envelopes for those paper product, you can opt out of receiving envelopes and you’ll save both money and paper. To opt out of envelopes, scroll down past ‘Paper Type,’ where there is a drop down that defaults automatically to receiving the envelopes, but you can also choose ‘None’ if you don’t want to receive them.

These paper products come with envelopes by default, but they can be removed if desired:

• Flat Card
• Flat Notecard
• Response Card
• Flat Advice Card
• Flat Holiday Card
• Flat Greeting Card
• Flat Announcement Card
• Flat Thank You Card
• Flat Save the Date Card
• Folded Greeting Card

The following paper product does not come with envelopes, but they can be included at an additional cost:

The following paper products do not come with envelopes. (We don’t give the option to order envelopes for these paper types because we don’t see any use or cases where customers would want them.)

• Business Card
• Flat Loyalty Card
• Flat Appointment Card
• Referral Card
• Discount Card
• Calling Card
• Flat Place Card

If you do want envelopes with these paper types or you want additional envelopes for the other paper types, there will be an option to ‘Add an essential accessory’ after you’ve added your cards to your cart. Our Envelopes by Envelopments come in different colors and can only be purchased in batches of 25. These envelopes are not customizable and come in the following sizes: 5” x 7”, 5.25” x 5.25”, and 3.5” x 5.”

If you do want custom envelopes from pre-existing templated designs, you can do so here

If you’re looking to create your own design for your envelopes, you can do so here

Thanks for all you do!

Hi Designers!

We have created a printable glossary guide for our new paper products.

You can view the document here.

Please note that as we continue to optimize the paper breakout, the document might change, but we will try to update this.

Hi Designers,

After much internal back and forth, we have decided, for customers’ consistency, to limit the designer's ability to turn envelopes on/off when posting paper products for sale.

For the past decade, white envelopes have always been automatically sent with invitations and similar products. Customers have grown accustomed to them being included and when they’re not, there are a lot more calls to customer service trying to explain and fix the issue. Since the call out is low on the product page, we don’t want customers to miss it and not be aware if envelopes have been included or not. We are now offering the option for them to save money (and the environment) by turning off that option, but we want to make sure they are consciously making that decision, and fully aware of the outcome.

We understand it takes control away from designers, but for the best customer experience, we are putting the control in the customers’ hands. We might change in the future, but for now, thanks for your continual efforts in working towards making the best experience for all our customers.

Thank you,

Z Team
