Lets do a Description Exercise... Anyone? 2 pages: 1 [2]

I couldn't figure out why Josh put mine for Maz as a "bonus description"

then I read the rules that say "you can only write one description"

Josh, this is not clear that you meant only one during the whole exercise... it is easy to think you meant one per product..

you might want to clarify that in the OP. Happy

I don't know what Josh had envisioned as the plan but I took it to be that we would have one product to look at and once there were five descriptions for that it would be "closed". Then someone would post another product and we'd come up with five descriptions and so on, and it would be sort of a self-policing system where nobody posted another product until the five description slots on the one before it is full. But now we have three products "open" at the same time, none of which have five descriptions yet, and this confusion now over being able to participate only once in the thread instead of once per product, which I'm sorry but that makes no sense to me.

I think this is a good idea for a beneficial exercise to see our designs how other see them and to get our creative juices flowing with ideas on how to write better descriptions but maybe the execution of the idea needs a little more tweaking.

I see why you want the limitation, but I have my doubts as to the number of participants and whether this will actually result in descriptions for everybody. I hope I'm too pessimistic.

I had the same thought that there will already be a built in limiting factor due to the small number of likely participants.

lol.

In my mind we would get 5 products submitted and then we could decide which one we would write a description for and write one description. Only one.

Obviously did not get that across in OP (which I've changed to try and adapt to what is happening). Because once we had 1 product, someone was kind enough to write a description for it... lol.

So my plan went out the window and I tried to adapt... apparently failing in some of your eyes. Buy I have already "learned" from this post and if I do another "exercise post" I promise it will be better.

I also hoped that this post would draw out more participation from the designer community. There have got to be 10's of 1000's of us. That may still happen. Fingurs crossed.

I believe that having a total of 25 descriptions, all written from different people, would provide us all perspective and ideas about how to describe products and art. Maybe looking for that many different descriptions is a stretch, maybe not. Only time will tell.

I thank everyone for participating, hopefully this clears up my original idea vs. the reality of what happened. lol

I know I have already learned and hope that others have too.

No, not failure, just miscommunication, which is pretty common in text conversations and things need to be spelled out pretty plain so there are no misunderstandings. It is a cool idea and fun and it is good that you are adapable.

I really hope more designers will participate. Now we wait and see...

Updated Original Post. Hope it is clearer and I think with products listed right there that it will make this exercise work better.

We shall see what happens.

Photos isnt something I normally do beyond reference, but playing with idea of salvaging an unpinned store.

Planning on getting a category of 6 bee on flower. Have 4 flower/bee so far but getting bee to model is more a matter of timing. Have a basic write up, think its lavender.

Slight delay on photo quality on zoom in, it looks a bit fuzy until z makes adjustments.

Zen Mandala Done in Black and White

Mandala done in black and white. The illustration consists of the classic zig zag but with a special twist, of a spiral representing inner zen peace. The design also has white flower petals with black stems and edges.

mandala,zen,inner+peace,spiral,white+flower+petal,black+and+white,phi,golden+ratio

Or (keeping the tags)

Golden Ratio Zen Mandala

A modern mandala done in black and white. The illustration contains the classic symbols for the zen, golden ration, spiral, white flower petal and a zig zag line representing that the path to inner peace isnt always a straight line.

Also noticed the starburst and. bead chain frenzy. Cannt see the whole design but have a feeling it might be holding a paisley, if so you could add wilted cedder.

Product #4

My phone - my friend. It should not only be functional (it is!) but be helpful and supporting. I see the Bumblebee on it - it is already such a helper: diligent, hard-working, tireless. In its way - just harvesting Lavender (my favorite color and favorite smell!) it makes me quiet, certain, creative. I like the vertical orientation of everything which corresponds with the phone's form very good, especially the two outside columns (they could be seen also as a part of the amethyst arch - the symbol for stability and safety). I like the little white flower, too, - with its yellow center coordinating another color-line. Yes, it is My Bee.

If someone could describe these for me it would be awesome!

Dear Josh, I would like to offer another Bonus description for Produkt #3. If it's already too much let it fly to the galaxy! Glooria (Janis Torgans)

Product #3
The combination of black and white is eternal – from the immemorial days when night and day were the main managers of life and action. Let the mysterious symbolic characters remain for professionals, collectors of ideas and ornaments. Because drawing, sample, pattern speak for themselves. About the past, about the oriental, exotic disposition, about a certain element of the game, the puzzle. The various, geometric elements (tiny concentric circles!) are not only attractive as themselves but also create the joy of guessing this hidden message. The sole, with its neutral yet highly natural material, reinforces this effect of old times and distant cultural roots. Recommended for You!

Here's one for Product 5:

"Display your need for caffeine with this whimsical shirt! A tired hippo breathes in the heart-shaped scent of freshly brewed coffee, represented by a takeout cup with a brown coffee bean on the front. Customize the text to your liking, or even play with the colors on this .svg image for a fully personalized experience."

It would be great if we could do one for each product. Just to piggyback on other sentiments on this thread, I think participation plays a big role in how many products a person should be able to write a description for.

Other than that, I think it's a great idea. Smile Smile

For the first product, those brightly colored leggings, I immediately thought of "graffiti" and "street art", for whatever that's worth. Smile

Thanks. Love

Interesting description, I especially like your way to highlight the fact that this design is hyper customize-able.

Thanks for participating! Idea Your description has been added to the first post.

**The goal in limiting the amount of descriptions one can write is to get the widest possible variety of descriptions from many different creative perspectives.***

~Note: I have adjusted to allow for those who want to write for more than one by adding a bonus description section. If you want to write a description for every product, I'm not stopping you. Smile

I have ideas for more exercise posts and may change the format, etc for future posts. I am waiting to see how this one plays out before creating another post...

Dear Josh,
I would like to offer a description for Product #5 though despite the long discussion - right here, at this thread - I didn't completely get the rules (but as a Bonus it should be accepted anyway, or?).

Product #5

Live with the sun (leggings)
A challenging, luxurious, striking, bright phenomenon – for a confident, forceful, independent personality. The main weapon – the showy, warm color range from intensive yellow to strong dark brown, almost black. Of course, the nature of the outfit must match the image of the wearer. Let's go – try it now!

~Your not the only one I confused...lol. Trying something like this has been a learning process...

Dear Josh,
another test (in any meaning)!

Product #1

Crosses, stripes and small crosses

The first impression – someone left the colors unattended and the kids (sorry!) played with them. In any case, each leg was painted by another painter… Many horizontal and vertical strokes also suggest that children – big or small – delighted themselves, had got pleasure. To me in pure physiology seems to be a little too much purple. But maybe this predomination is exactly the bait of this design, the hook to catch on. Forward, courage, and joy!

Like the direction your going. Changed the my bee, to "My friend" Think Z doest like use to use product type in description so I had to do a little editing.

Did find another bee puts me at 5 bees just need one more for the collect.

New design isnt a new submission but an acknowledgement.

My Friendly Bee

My friends, don't have to pretty but should be functional. Just like a Bumblebee and a flower, just sharing some time together, both gain something.

Interesting interpretation Glooria. I am glad my enjoyment of creating art comes through and the kids part didn't bother me at all as naive art is actually one of my specialties. It must be the Peter Pan syndrome... Laughing
