Walmart planning to acquire Art.com

Posting here because I think this may be of interest to Zazzlers:

Headline: Walmart has announced plans to acquire top art e-tailer Art.com

Seen at: https://www.businessinsider.com/walmart-acquiring-artcom-2018-12

It's not clear to me how Art.com acquires the images they sell - maybe someone more acquainted with them can enlighten us via this thread.

Maybe we need to start checking here for stolen works, too?

ETA: Or maybe not? Apparently people can also upload their own art there for framing. In theory they could steal something from here and upload it there, but I'm not sure they would be saving any $$$.

Given the reports of stolen works being sold by Walmart, it set off some alarm bells.

Art.com has a print on demand division for artists called Art Rising

https://www.art.com/asp/landing/artistrising

I haven't really done a whole lot of research into it but it seems like there was some reason I wasn't too keen on it like the fees to use it or something...

when I figure out what put me off about it I will update.

ETA: it was the $50 yearly fee and a blog post I read where a top selling artist from FAA called them "dead in the water" as far as sales go. So the payoff sounded like it might not cover the cost to be there.

adding again: Since artists upload to Art Rising and it is promoted on Art.com if you see something you recognize from an artist there is no way to know if they uploaded it or not. So only look for you own work.
