Maybe we could have fun and make money by running a character for President 5 pages: [1] 2 3 4 5

Someone could create a character, a platform for it, and run it for President in 2016. I don't thimk this has been done on a large scale in serious fun since Pat Paulsen and Bozo the clown. There have been characters running for President but they have been serious and not running for serious fun. The rest of us could promote the heck out of our Zazzle candidate or we could create our own PIC (political inaction committee) based on PACs and create our own products in support of our Zazzle candidate. Our candidate has the potential to run not just nationwide but worldwide with our worldwide Zazzle community. People could buy some of their own products like bumper stickers for their cars or buttons and postcards to leave around for people to find. All of our Presidential campaign products would include URLs (your store, your website, whatever) where people could learn about our candidate and buy products to show their support for it. Maybe we could get media attention and bring new customers to Zazzle.

If you want to understand PACs to create a PIC, here is a link.

In Seattle in the 70's cartoonist Ray Collins created an editorial cartoon character called Dipstick Duck (and his friend Cecil C. Addle) who quickly became beloved mascots of the Puget Sound area. Dipstick Duck ran for president in 1976 and actually got some write-in votes.

Could find almost nothing online about it.

I think it would be fun!

Well, if somebody creates a character, my sister and I will promote the campaign products and our PIC will be in MarBeth Eclectica. So we will call it MEPIC. As for the character's platform, it could be non-serious issues like instead of the legalization of you know what, it could be the prohibition of broccoli or something. There was a campaign slogan about "a chicken in every pot and a car in every garage." Slogans like that could be parodied. Just putting the idea out there and then participating if it goes some place.

I have a few peculiar characters I've created and will have to take a look at them to see if anything pops into my sometimes wandering mind. I like the idea.

I'm not exactly clear on what you're proposing. My Ninja Kitty and Sumo Kitty have been running for awhile. They have tshirts and such, but I'm not sure where they stand on issues. Smile

Kitties have their own priorities: A Salmon in Every Mouth. No More Moving Laps! Hope and Fangs. Legalize Catnip. The last is an old one and is probably no longer needed.

What I was proposing is a character like Sumo Kitty, that whoever wants to could promote 2016 presidential products made by others for that character's presidential campaign and also whoever wants to could create their own products for that character's presidental bid. The idea is that if enough Zazzlers start promoting the characters presidential bid even with youtube videos, then the campaign could become viral and products might sell. Even, if it starts with an artificial commercial push, if it is really fun, people will go for it. The character should be something that the creator is willing to make use of the name and image commercial free so that everyone can not only make referrals promoting others products but everyone can make sales with their own campaign products. So you might not want to offer your already established characters.

I made a sample PIC product with Sumo Kitty. It is a rough mock-up. Don't worry it is hidden and will be deleted shortly.

Those are all great campaign issues! I like the idea of a kitteh for Prez. They are the boss, after all.

Ha ha! He supports equal rights for dogs... love it!

I'd donate Moira, just for the campaign, if she could also have as one of her campaign slogans, "Adopt, don't Shop." She is inspired by and based on a 17 year old kitty I adopted from my local pound after her human died, and gave her 2 more years she would not have had otherwise.

The only snag is, she has no body yet. Just what you see. never got around to giving her legs. She started out as an .ai vector (which I don't have handy any more, but MIGHT be able to find), then went to several other programs. I don't know how big I can make her without redrawing her with the pen tool. She's big enough for postcards and bumper stickers and such though.

I removed my rf code and star from this link:

I think that most campaign products use only head shots anyway. So she would work and so would "Adopt, don't Shop."

You're right. And I'd love to see her done up in that Fairley-esque red/white/blue retro fashion that was so popular back in 2008. Campaign derivatives are encouraged! Smile I love all of the "issues" heretofore mentioned, as well.

Okay, so if you are willing and can share her image and if Colorwash and Valerie's Gallery are okay with it, we have a candidate. the first thing that I will do, if she is agreed on is to give Moira her owm thread in the Show Me forum and her own board on my Pinterest board. When we get her thread going in the Show Me forum maybe other Zazzlers will join in and we can make her the most popular candidate and female candidate for President in 2016.

That would be fine with Moira, but if Valerie wants to share Ninja Kitty or Sumo Kitty, she's totally on board with that too. They did start first in the running and this thread, and Moira feels like they should get first right of refusal.

Whoever we decide on, we need to have a way to share the files with those who want to participate, hopefully without sharing them with the whole world. Any ideas?

edit: though, in the unlikely event the world joins in the campaign, well so be it and more power to it.

This is where, I am not good. I am not techy and I don't want to suggest that everyone that wants the file has to contact you unless you want to do it that way and have them sign a reease saying that they will not share it with anyone else or use it for any other purpose than the 2016 Presidential campaign and that all uses must be G rated and respectful of Moira. If someone doesn't want to agree to that then they don't need the file.

Colorwash seems very savvy. Maybe, she will have some better ideas on file sharing.

Not so much savvy as been-there-done-that. Anyone with a web site where they can upload .zip files to a folder can supply the link for people to download. However, therein lies a problem: It can lead to everyone plus a passing seagull downloading it. Not good. To avoid this, you'd think that requiring people gain permission before they get the link would solve it, but it won't. People share links. Another way is to use one of those online services such as DropBox to store the file, giving folks the link to that. It doesn't get rid of the download mountain, but at least it leaves nefarious sorts without access to the back end of your web site.

File transfer services are probably best as long as we don't mind our images turning into an internet infestation. Ha! We could end up creating a new type of cockroach. Laughing

Since I'm not comfortable sharing my Ninja Kitty files (cause I also use Ninja Kitty for other things and such), I'm totally okay with Moira being the candidate. Moira for President!

I think you can share files through Google Drive and only share them with certain people.

I thought the bumper sticker was funny.

Moira understands. She's been feeling neglected lately though, so she's excited about this opportunity and honored by the trust her fellow Zazzlicans are placing in her to represent them in her platform.
Salmon in every bowl! No More Moving Laps! Hope and Fangs. Legalize Catnip. Equal rights for dogs! And Adopt Don't Shop! Later on there may be some really tough issues like Spay and Neuter... Window Ledges and Open Curtains... and establishing a Flea Eradication Commission (FEC). "Citizens, hear me out... This could happen to you!" (insert banjo music)

As for how to share the file, I need to think about that and I can't think right now - day job is insane and so am I. If y'all want a file, PM me with your email addy and what type of file you can use, and I will send it to you three at least. I probably will want some sort of agreement with people I don't know well enough, but I don't have enough brain cells left to write it or research it now, and won't for at least a week or so. Maybe even not until after 9/20. It's still early.

Poor Shotwell! Lucky us! Your kitty is perfect, but we can all wait for you to sort things out...right, gang?

If any of us has a 1-minute moment of genius and come up with an idea to alter Moira in some small way such as give her a toothy grin or change the heart to a chicken (a chicken in every pot), would this be okay with you? It's YOUR graphic, not ours.

Yes, that's totally okay. Campaign derivatives welcome. She has a beautiful smile and loves new bling. Chicken in every pot, salmon in every bowl, a mouse in every mouth!

I have a psd file that's 3.67 MB with layers, it's raster but the bling and the face details and the collar are all on separate layers and would be easy to change. Also a few clipped, circles and a starburst shapes. One day I'll get around to re-vectoring her with the PS pen tool, wishing I still had Illustrator. There are also some .pspimage files that would be layered and possibly vector, but earlier iterations. I haven't opened PSP in ages. I'll email them to you if ya PM me with that handy dandy message button I was so happy to see when I arrived here this morning.

I was going to wait until you were less stressed at work but since it is okay, I will e-mail you right now.

OK, gotcha both, sent the file. Let me know if it arrives. My delay is mostly in the usage agreeement, whether to use one and if so then what it should say and how to implement it. That and making new Moira products etc. I still have to finish my Holiday Contest entries and of course all the new store arrangements. Usually Zazzle is my haven from the work insanity, but right now it's all kind of crazy. When it rains it pours, eh?

For now I can send the files in email, which I check almost every night, barring exhaustion and thunderstorms.

I got a rejection notice for the first email saying it was too big, sent again with very little in the message field, but think the problem may be in the attached file. Will look for rejection notice and if I get one, will send message only, no file attachment, as a way to confab about a way to make it work.

We need to figure out Moira's political party - DemoCAT or RepubliCAT? Maybe Feline Independence? PetParty? Mew Deal?
