Trying to understand the option of displaying collections on multiple stores...

Hi everybody,

I noticed for a while this option (when you edit a collection) that allows you to check multiple stores for displaying a collection and always wanted to try it.

So today I created new stores with the idea of organizing my creations and make them easier to find for customers and affiliates. Went to my collections, shared the relevant one with my new stores and went to check my account in incognito mode to see how it was publicly displayed. So the added collections apears, but empty.

I don't understand the use of sharing empty collection folders?
Does anyone have a use for this option and how?

Related question:
Is there any way to move / duplicate / display some of my products to the new store or do I have to copypaste or redo each product?

Collections get indexed anytime something is added. Also if something is altered in the collection or any individual product in the collection is changed.

Indexing, on a good day takes 24 - 48 hrs. On a really good day it happens faster and when Zazzle is not having a good day/s it can take much longer, up to a week.

So sit tight for a few days. Don't add anything to the new collection and when it is indexed you will see what you have added.

This happens when ever you modify a collection because of slow indexing. Eventually they will show your products once they index the changes you made.

It really ruins the idea of using collections instead of categories on your storefront and also using them for immediate promoting.

The only thing I still use collections for is so that they will appear on the product page above the other designs feed.

Thank you for your answer JB, looks like I'm a bit impatient ! So that's reassuring, if the collections show up it will be such an improvement for me. I work in many styles / themes and my main store is too messy and filled up with non related things

Thank you Shelli for your answer, I do as well use collections to have them featured under my products. And it also helps me finding my own products and post things by theme on Pinterest or else. In fact I find categories difficult to maintain, can't create them on the go when I have a new idea. So, if it works I'll be happy even if it's a bit slow

Categories can be created on the go right when you post a product for sale on the page where you list titles, tags, etc. When you get to the section to choose a store category, click on the “clear” link and it will change to “new”. Click on that and you’ll get a pop-up to create a category.

Categories, not collections, are for organizing your store. Collections are an advertising tool.

And I think it is important to note that any change to a product in a collection will cause all the collections its in, across all your stores to go "invisible".

So if you find a spelling mistake in your description and correct it. All the collections that product is in "disappear" until indexed.

If at some point in time you add a product to a collection, it "disappears."

Change a royalty % - you got it. The collection disappears.

So you really want to make every product in a collection perfect, fill that collection up, and then never touch it. Or make all the changes in one day for as little down time as possible.

Agree, I use categories on the store front too... I was just mentioning it because I see alot of people trying to use collections instead of categories.

I am one that has been using collection instead of categories. I think the categories are unattractive, and since Zazzle has a list of categories in the side bars, a little redundant. I have actually emptied and deleted a lot of mine. Guess I will have some work to do. I just don't like categories.

If collections were functioning the way they are supposed to and the way they used to I don't think it would be a problem, just a matter of preference.

But when they go missing in action every time you modify anything in them that is a problem.

If we could easily modify and rearrange categories it would be much easier and fun to use these. For me that's also a lot of work to create the categories pictures, so boring to take screenshots for all kind of products... Looks nice at the end but it could all be automated.

And in the end, when I search my own products I prefer to use Zazzle's categories than mine...

Something to keep in mind is we are limited to how many collections we can have, but there is no limit to categories.
