Pet Beds

Fellow Pet Designers...

Is anyone selling pet beds?

Does anyone have any statistics for their pet bed sales on Zazzle?

I am looking for information on annual or monthly sales, to determine the popularity of Zazzle’s pet beds.

Thank you!

Zazzle never shares its sales statistics, but my guess is that, since the beds rarely (if ever) show up on the home page, they may not be top sellers.

How well can you advertise and market pet beds? That is probably the more important question.

There are only 27,000+ showing up in the category of pet beds. Some of that will be in error due to the way people tage other products, but all in all, not that many.

Remember that design is only part of the selling equation at any POD site like Zazzle. Getting your design in front of the right buyers is the other part, and it is really your responsibility to make that happen. At least for the first 5,000 - 10,000 sales or so. If you can "turn Zazzles head" with sales then you might get help from them. But with 100,000's of thousands of designers and millions upon millions of products they can't promote us all.

You could also look for other designers that are specifically pet, most likely dog, themed and see if the pet bed pops up high on their pages when sorted by popularity...

I posted here, to solicit information from fellow pet designers. I posted in the feedback forum, to solicit information from Zazzle. The post in the feedback forum was locked, thanks to your comment in that forum. Do you design and sell pet beds? With all due respect, I am not asking for your guess. I am asking for insight from fellow pet bed designers and/or sellers.

I am fully aware of everything you typed. Unfortunately, it's not what I'm looking for. I posted here, to solicit information from fellow pet bed designers.

Actually, it was locked for being a duplicate, and it would have been locked for that reason whether there was a response or not. ;)

People try to help each other the best they can here on the forums. Lots of good people around. No sense running them off for offering suggestions.

I designed a few several years ago, I have had exactly zero sales of pet beds so far.

Collars and leashes, yes, pet beds, no.

While I appreciate the suggestions, I am looking for some specific information, for a reason. I do all the market research, pointed out, but I am wanting to hear from other pet bed designers/sellers...for their individual input. If I was asking for suggestions, I would understand the replies. But, as stated in my original post, I am asking for specific insight from a specific group of people. The person from Zazzle, who locked the other thread, did not take the time to understand that either. If they were locking that thread, why didn't they come over to this thread and provide the information requested of Zazzle? Or reply on this thread at all? I think they just assumed the person who inserted themself and said they answered my question, had indeed done it. That is what happens when one person says something to or about another person. I have never understood why people, especially those responsible for monitoring forums, do not thoroughly read what is being posted.

I have a dog-related niche and have never sold a pet bed.

This topic piqued my curiosity, so I went the the trending section on Zazzle and drilled down through the categories to the pet beds. I sorted the results by "best selling all time" and only found 189 pet beds in the list of pet bed designs that have sold. This does not indicate how many of each of these designs sold, but it shows which designs have sold. As I understand it, they are ranked in order by most orders placed for each design. For what it's worth.

I can't offer numbers and insights yet, but even if I could, it wouldn't help you much. What works for others must not necessarily work for you and vice versa. It all depends on what you create, on how you market your products, on what sort of audience and followers you have and many other factors. There may have only 100 beds sold per year and 50 of them may be yours, there may have 1 million sold, but not one was yours.

You've just started and you need to build up your own follower base and niche. You can't do this overnight, it needs time on a platform like Zazzle where you compete with thousands of other designers and millions of products. You have some bed designs, stick now to other products. With time you will know what works for you and what less and you can adapt on the fly.

I know, this wasn't truly helpful, but this feedback may be instead: on most of your designs, the space that holds the pet's name is way too small. You're mostly using short names that fill well the dedicated space (e.g. small tags), but this won't work on longer ones. Create your designs so that they can fit also longer names. You wannot lose a possible sale due to a small design flaw. Cheers!

Thank you @PetsDreamlands for your thoughts and advice. Check out my Pinterest Board...Designer Pet Beds. I'm in the process of sharing all pet beds there, so it's not done yet. You'll see there are a wide variety of designs, with plenty of room for longer names. And, the shopper can also make some of the larger fonts a tad smaller, if their name is longer. I think you'll find there is something for everyone. Love

It’s not really a worry of mine. I’ve only made a handful, mainly because I thought I should at least have a few in my shop! I think pet beds would sell more if they had a nicer presentation, such as in a room with a cute doggy on them.

Well I got inspired to create a few more and revamp two of my older ones with better SEO, so lets see what happens with that!

I'll update here if something sells. Happy

ETA: we could definitely use some cuter in situ views for this product!

What that link shows is both enlightening and confusing at the same time. I've long wondered whether pet-themed designs would do better there than patterns or abstract designs. It also seems that templates with a place for a pet's name aren't as big a draw as one might think. Kind of blows up a lot of my assumptions.

Thanks for sharing that!

I think alot of your art would work on this product, what do you have to lose?

Only my time, which I'm not devoting to creating on Zazzle at the moment. I did make some once upon a time, but they were non-performers and got the axe a long time ago.

Maybe someday.

It is! You inspired me to update the one pet bed I had designed that hadn't gotten any views in ages. Needed to have the name template fixed to accommodate longer names, plus I fixed the title, tags and description. Now I want to make more!Laughing

ETA: Just wanted to add the link to my pet bed so you could see it!
