New Search Engine

Hello - Does anyone else feel that they are receiving a very noticeable reduction in product views since the new search engine style went into effect?

I assume you mean the search here on Zazzle, and if you do, then maybe you've been fooled when ordering your products according to Last Viewed. It was thoroughly broken for a several weeks and is only just now getting back on track. For a while there, none of us were believing anything we saw. :-)

Search is getting back on track?????

I just searched on 'beach' and the first row is 'make your own', the next 2 rows are rubber stamps and duplicate-looking address labels with white backgrounds and black text, then the next 12 rows are mainly the same 3 or 4 BORING wedding invites we've been seeing on the front page for YEARS. Not a palm frond or grain of sand to be seen.

Thank you for listening. I've been trying to affiliate but this search issue makes it impossible without doing everything by hand.

I just ran a search for beach, and my results weren't quite the same as yours. There was only one make-your-own, albeit the very first product (beach towel), and then, granted, all the rest were mainly wedding sorts of things, but mixed in were a beach-related clock and postcard. Then I used the category dropdown and found non-wedding products. However, a lot of weight is given to the various kinds of cards, perhaps because they're a Z bestseller. The real problem with the new search is that it's confusing. I still can't remember if, by placing check marks in the filter, you're trying to exclude those qualities or include them.

Yeah, until we get the views stats fixed and reliable there is no way to tell whether our views are being affected by the new search or not.

my views are so scrambled that I give up trying to track them down with the random order they are in right now. Who has time for that.

I really wish that the views counter would not be pushed to the back burner because it is an important tool for us designers. As important as the search engine is, so is the accurate stats on the back end.

Shelli, are you saying that, when you select Last Viewed, it's still totally out of order? Mine have been correctly ordered for the past couple days.

They still were yesterday... haven't checked today yet.

Edit: on first glance today they appear to be fixed until I noticed that scattered among the "1 day ago", "2 days ago" and "3 days ago" are random "within the last 24 hours" views

I just looked at mine again, and though there's the occasional "within 24 hours" mixed into "1 day ago," once it hits 2 days and beyond, it's correct. Or let's say it looks correct.

Somewhere between using the search function and doing everything by hand is RSS Feeds for Collections. Two times ago when straight RSS Feeds broke, I converted my websites to use RSS Feeds for Collections, and while I hate that I felt like I had to drop everything to do it (so I'd have some products on my sites), I'm very happy with it as an affiliate website solution now.

- I have total control over what appears on my sites.
- I can update the Collections (add/subtract/mix up), and my site automatically updates.
- If a Designer deletes or hides a product, it doesn't leave a gaping hole in my site.
- If a bunch of spammy products are posted in a product type or surface to the top of search, they won't appear on my site.
- I can add my Associate ID to the Feed links, and on an occasion or two I get a Referral.
- If a Collection is product specific and that Product goes out of stock, I can re-purpose it, and still be pulling products on my site or any social media. (I still have to update verbiage on social media/site, but links don't go dead/empty.)

I realize that's off topic from OP, but it's a logical spin-off from that comment.

The stats that matter are sales and mine are in the dump, not one sale in May yet.

I love your store! I shared your ‘animal lover’ collection on Twitter. I hope it helps some 😊

Sorry to hear that because your stuff is awesome. Just pinned one of your puzzles.

Hopefully, you won't be offended if I make a suggestion. Since your work is so beautiful, I see you're selling your work at your Animal and Nature Art and Gifts store as art. You may want to consider making your art as a background on customizable products. For instance, any of your products with two birds on would make a nice wedding gift if there was a template to put the bride and groom's name and perhaps wedding date. Like changing the text on this to says something like 'Ashley and Johnathan May 16, 2018'. Just a thought.
