How to work as a team in Zazzle?

Hi !
I'd like to have a friend work with me on my products but I can't find any info on that. I'd like to set something up so that the royalties get shared when my friend creates a product for my store. I remember seeing, a long time ago, an option to invite someone to be on your team, as a designer or another role. What that all a dream? The big stores like Disney surely have more than one person working on them, right?

Thanks Smile

I don't know if zazzle offers any shared payouts. I very much doubt it. But you and your friend can work on the same account at the same time from different computers. Your friend and you can sort out the money after the payout between the two of you. But as the account holder you assure zazzle that you safeguard your email and password. So technically you and your friend have to be a business and the business is opening the account, not either of you personally. IMHO

You can only have one person’s or one business’s tax info associated with the account for the Internal Revenue Service.

That doesn't have anything to do with zazzle itself, if I'm not mistaken. Zazzle is a service.

I'm sure many businesses start out by friends starting something for fun without a care for tax or legal requirements. Which inevitable will have to be sorted out sooner or later.

Someone’s tax info must be supplied in order to receive payments, and Zazzle gives that info to the IRS.

You form the partnership and agreement between you and your colleague, then you share royalties from the store privately between the two of you.

As Maz said, one of you, or a company you form together, has to be responsible for the tax information. How you split royalties is a private matter.

The only place I've seen do something like this is Threadless, and I think it's only for the contests, not the shops.

Since you have to put in either you or your friend's tax info, someONE would end up paying all the tax on the money you would be splitting, however you decide to split it. Not exactly sure that's fair for either of you. Might be best that you guys open a store each, and work as a team that way? Have someone do invitations/cards and the other cover home goods like pillows and light switch covers.

Although If you put one design on a card in one store, I don't think you can use that same design on a pillow in the other person's store. I'm only assuming here, trying to help you brainstorm but there is just no simple way to go about it, or even if Zazzle would allow this in the T&C because you have to keep your info protected. Maybe if you opened it as a business instead of 2 people coming together.. idk very interesting.

This doesn't sound practical to me, given Zazzle's limited designer arrangement, and the problems people can have in partnerships, well, who would want to get into the middle of a dispute should that happen? Not Zazzle, I can tell you.

Things always seem cool up front, but small businesses die quick, and "friend" partnerships even quicker as one person ends up doing most of the work and splits because the other one's not pulling their weight or some other issue that comes up when friends discover each other's work habits and temperment, then have to face reality.

What you need is a contract or an entity like an S-corp (better for taxes, otherwise one of you gets stuck with the bill, and you have to pay PLENTY taxes even if you make only a couple hundred a month), outlining everything that could happen in good times or in bad times. If you become successful and one of you wants to quit, what happens to the copyrights and future royalties? Deleting things "she made" will affect the popularity and ranking of your store, for example, if she insists on splitting and taking her design work with her.

It still doesn't sound practical to me; on the other hand, Zazzle is experimenting now with a 'collaboration' thing using more than one store or entity, which I don't know how it works, but 1 person ends up with the resulting product or image and there's either a split royalty or the winner (for lack of a better term) gets the royalty. Seriously messed up at this point from what I understand, but you can read in the forums where some people have experimented with it and the process.
