How do you use 'Featured Products'?

I get that you can only tick three products to appear in Top Picks but I've never ever used the default folder 'Featured Products'. Is it a folder you can delete if you want to? Do you have to create products to go into that folder, or do you tick products you want to appear in there? What do you use it for?

Thanks!

Yes, you tick products that you want to appear in there, and it basically just flags them as 'featured.' It doesn't move them from their original locations or anything like that. When you don't want them featured anymore, you just go to the featured products area and remove them. Pretty simple.

What *I* use them for is:
1. An easy way to keep my store's front page in a constant state of change--I set it to show "featured," and change them (nearly) every day. Theoretically good for SEO, I suppose--plus, my "most popular" is full of idiotic things that just get viewed a lot for no good reason, and while some of them do sell, I don't want my storefront packed with them; and I don't want my front page to show "new" products, so, Featured Products it is.
2. I use my 'featured products' as a convenient and easy-to-change feed for a twitter account.

Whether either of these uses has really accomplished anything worthwhile I do not know, but re-doing my featured products gives me something more-or-less mindless, but theoretically productive, to do while I have the morning coffee and try to wake up.

Thanks for that. Now all I need to know where that 'send to featured folder' function is LOL Currently all I can select are:
Select all | Select none | Add to Top Picks | Move to | Edit | Delete | Send to front | Send to back | Sort by stats

Any ideas?

Cheers

freestylist:Thanks for that. Now all I need to know where that 'send to featured folder' function is

ADD to Featured products:
Go to product tab.
Locate item you want to Feature.
Click on "actions" drop down menu above this item.
Select "Add to Featured Products"

To REMOVE from Featured products:
Select "Featured products" from left navigator bar.
Check one or more items in this collection (next to title below image)
Click on "Remove" above one of the selected items.

Items may not appear or disappear immediately, but it usually doesn't take too long.

Great info....I was wondering about this too.

Dumb question: What does SEO stand for? I keep seeing it everywhere! God bless!

Search Engine Optimisation; it's about the use of keywords, descriptions and such so as to maximise the search engine friendliness of web pages, (in fact the whole design of web pages really - but it's the keywords, descriptions and etc. which are of concern to us here).

Thanks so much, Steve, for the explanation! God bless! Rose

Well, I've tried and tried but I can't get products to appear in my Featured Products. I don't know why but I'm over it. Sad

Featured products is javascript so not SEO friendly, but for the customer it is great. To get some link juice (SEO) add to your store description the links for the featured products.

Yes, it does take a bit more time than just updating the Featured products in your account, but if you want the benefits of SEO it is worth it.

If you would like to see an example check out my trinketbox shop

I intend to update all my shops for the Featured Product... it's on my todo list.. honest it is xd

No matter how often or which products I select for "featured" when I click on featured products it shows zero products. Why?

This thread is from 2011

I believe FEATURED PRODUCTS was turned off several years ago.

Oh, well it seems like it would make sense to remove it as an option then.
