Does rank even matter at all?
Posted: Tuesday, January 21, 2020 2:40:29 PM
One of my stores has a ranking of 3. But it's my #1 seller. I don't understand it for the life of me. Actually, ranking has been making me hesitant to make new products in my store that is rank 7 because I don't want my rank to go down lower, but if ranking doesn't really matter then I should be okay, right?

That is a decision only you can make. I, personally, pay my zRank no mind. Others I have seen are obsessed with it. You choose your own path regarding zRank.

I think I'm going to start paying it no mind. I have been quite obsessed with it but I realize it's holding me back. And I actually think that that might be Zazzle's intent.

It probably isn't their intent. I think it's more in line with unintended consequences.

If you deleted/hid all of your products &/or hid/made your store private, that store's zRank will go down to 3. Somewhere it says you need to be 4 or higher to appear in Marketplace searches. (But, if your store/products are hidden, they're not visible anyway. I have no idea how Direct Only items effect zRank.)

I have a brand new store with a rank of 2 and my stuff is showing in marketplace searches.

Maybe it's because you are a silver pro.

I'm just a regular pro designer and I have a store that is a 3 and its randomly sells items. They always come in as "none" meaning they are found in the marketplace.

I don't really do much with this store. It was a 1 or 2 day idea... with maybe 50 products. I was shocked the first time it happened. I too was under the belief that a 3 would not be seen on the marketplace. Guess it's not quite true. I have never promoted anything from the store... Maybe a google search... IDK, but it is still possible for your items to sell from under 4 stores.

I don't think "none" necessarily means it was found via the MP... just that there was no referral cookie attached. These sales could come in from links outside of Zazzle where the shopper has cookies disabled. No way for us to tell.

Sure. But the main point is that the store is a 3. I've never told a single person that that store exists. No promotion, nothing. But sales do happen. Mind you maybe only 3 or 4 in a year, but they still happen with a zRank under 4.

Yes, that is good news and means that the Zrank dox are not entirely accurate.

Also if you have never promoted this store on social media then your sales must be marketplace sales.

I just wanted you to know "none" only means no referral cookie was attached or it wasn't trackable. It doesn't really tell us much about where the sale came from.

I think the 4 cutoff is for showing up in the Designer Store dropdown for a particular page.* That isn't particularly critical since Designer Store is probably a filter that doesn't get used much compared to Events/Ocassions or Recipient.

*And it is no guarentee of showing up in that dropdown. You still have to be in the top 150 or so stores for a given page, though your odds go up the more search terms that are in play.

Here is what is says when you click on zRank next to your number...

Quote:

<snip>

Why does my zRank matter?

As Zazzle's Designer community continues to grow, we are constantly looking for ways to improve our customers' experience and highlight the best stores suited to them. zRank gives us a way to showcase those stores that have put a lot of time and effort into creating a rich and engaging user experience.

There are also a few added benefits* for your store on Zazzle:

Your store will appear, and have preference, as a suggested search result when searching.

Your store will appear, and have preference, in the Designer Store search Filter - the links which appear in the left-hand navigation bar for narrowing results in marketplace search.

*Your store must have a zRank of 4 or above to have these features enabled

But apparently the part about appearing in searches is not correct and that is good news for anyone below a 4.

Not necessarily, someone on the forum may have saw the store and promoted the products but the ref didn't stick, or it could have come from search engines.

True! I didn't think of that. Smile

Pro is just recognition of longevity now, even if I only got one sale a month I'd still maintain my Pro status, and if I'm not selling anything, giving me marketplace priority over another 2-ranked store that sells more than me wouldn't make sense.
