5% royalty rate

I've seen numerous products that have a price that reflects a lower royalty rate than 5%. When I've created some new products I tried to put in less than 5% and it wouldn't allow me too. Today I saw some products that were like $2. or more lower than the 5% I had set my products to. How is this possible?

Are they the exact identical products? Sometimes the MP will show other variations of similar products, like a different size or the price with or without printing on the back. So many variations are typical in the MP. So, you have to be sure that those are exactly identical.

Next, did you realize that 5% is the absolute lowest royalty rate possible? Every designer has the same starting point. Competition is one thing, but in my humble opinion it's not everything. Sales are still made using higher percentages. Every design is different, therefore every designer should value the time/effort they take into creating it by way of how much royalty they predict they can get for it. So, I encourage you to look at it in another way, because shoppers buy what they want -regardless if it's the lowest price.

Also Zazzle sets the market prices, we can't control when or if they change the product prices, especially within the same product...for instance, matte, semi-gloss, kraft, heavier weight paper could all vary in price. So those prices will reflect in the final prices you'd see in the MP.

I hope that helps you.
Happy Sales!

Also at 5% you risk more often a 0% royalty when a deep discount sale comes along on a referred sale.

personally I would never go below 10%, and I get plenty of sales at an even higher rate.

I hate to see designers and PODS value the designs at such a low percentage. Of course it is a personal choice but please don't sell yourself short!

I wasn't considering using the 5% royalty rate. Normally when I'm posting a new product I will look around at what other artists have priced at to get an idea of what % I want to list it at. I just happened to notice some of the really low ones. I'm going to browse around further to see if there's something I missed causing their price to be lower. Thanks for the input! Appreciate it!Smile

Laura has it right. Customers on Zazzle are unlikely to be shopping by price. If they were, they wouldn’t be here. Instead, they’d be in a discount store.
