Custom Afridrilles - Questions / Design Tips 15 pages: [1] 2 3 4 5 6 7 ... Last

Have a question, didn't see the design/feedback thread a Mod usually starts with a new product so started this one, hope that's OK.

I posted a pair for sale with the intention of editing & fluffing-out the description after I saw how they appeared on the product page and what the options would be, etc. But oops, they go to Under Review first so I can't see what I was hoping to see, LOL, or edit it. So just hoping the description which is quite lacking at the moment doesn't count against them getting approved.

Also - could someone explain what the "SKU filter" is that we were recommended to use?

Another question (which is why I was waiting to write full descriptions on mine) - since we turn off Customize on the product page, does that mean customers cannot go into the design tool at all so they can't say, experiment with the different image filter options or tiling & such?

Question for Z: If I select a custom canvas color, is that retained on the published product, or will it always default to white (or one of the presets)? I would like to put a white pattern on the shoe, with the customer selecting a base color, but my preferred color isn't an option.

I was looking for the feedback thread, too. Anyway, I'm so excited about these shoes! Love I haven't made any yet as I want to do a bit of planning first. Can't wait to add them!

Thanks for starting this thread ColeenZ! Yes it means that the customer cannot go into the design tool at all.

Ah, that is an internal Zazzle term. I changed the help article to refer to it as the Product Merchandising options, and you would select "This canvas color only." to make sure the customer could not change the canvas color if it was important to your design.

An observation/question - it looks like the canvas is fairly textured, so that small, highly detailed patterns probably won't print all that well?

Yes it is canvas and has a canvas texture. It won't print as detailed as something like an invitation, but the printing is pretty high resolution. If you look at the patterns on the branded shoes (Disney) you can get a sense of how fine you should probably go.

Are these a 'design by invitation only' product? Or am I just blind? I can see no where to access the product to design for it.

If you can only design for this product if you are asked, then my next question is: will this product be opened to all designers at some point?

There is a link in the announcement to the shoe design page. If you click it and get an error page then there is another link to a form that you can use to apply be approved to design them. hope that helps.

I tried several designs, but with the image appearing to be greatly enlarged in order to fit across both shoes, I haven't found any to be satisfactory, even with shrinking and tiling.

I also noticed when trying a gradient that instead of going straight across from toe to heal, it reverses where the front and back are divided.

They seem like a lovely product. Just not within my capabilities. Sad

Just a note: the in-situ preview image does not take on the pattern/design, it stays at a default design. Don't know if it's due to a technical limitation or just something that got missed so thought I'd mention it.

Fuzzy did you try the mirror tiling on any of your designs? sometimes that makes cool looking symmetrical patterns.

If you need to scale your image up or down do it before you tile it.

I don't think it's supposed to show our designs.

Thanks! I totally missed the announcement because it was only in the forums, not as a new product announcement on our store profile. I only saw the shoes on the Z homepage as well, but no create link. Thanks so much. I thought so was losing it!

Yeah, the shoes won't be found there. They will only be found through the direct link on the page that is linked to in the news forum and the link only works for those that have been given the greenlight to design them.

Yep, have tried all of that. Just wasn't happy with any of the results. Good tips, though!

Hi Fuzzy. Have you tried cropping your artwork to a square, reducing the size then tiling? Maybe worth a shot?

is the inside pattern.... permanent? I don't see an option to deviate / change the inside pattern.

Is this a new product bug or feature that is just missing from the new launch or are we stuck with that inside pattern that appears?

There is an option below Canvas Color (outside the design view) called "Liner." You can pick a different pattern or a plain color before selecting "Sell It." Love

There are inside pattern/solid color choices on the product page.

I didn't even notice this until after I had made a few. Customers are likely to miss it as well.

I think I know the answer to this, but asking just in case I missed it.

Is there a way to call back a design that's been placed in product review? I made a boo boo and would like to fix it before it's reviewed.

I'm thinking I just have to wait.

You can duplicate it and send another one in then delete the messed up one if it gets approved.

BTW, it takes about 15 minutes after you have submitted for the duplicate button to work. Don't ask me how I know this... Laughing

Yes. Like I said, I haven't found anything that I could make work to my satisfaction.

I miss the show me thread for this product! I am looking forward to seeing what everyone is doing with them.

I love this new product and I hope they sell like hotcakes!
