Hi Lori,
I'm really glad to hear it's working for you now.
I'd also really love to hear back from Zazzle. ematson said he was looking into it, but that was weeks ago. I wonder if Zazzle can work out the same shortened form format that tinyurl uses which keeps the referral code intact. (At least, I hope it does.)

AARRRRGGGGHHH! Now I'm not getting the zbar from TinyURL links anymore. Did Twitter decide to block referral codes from those too? Anyone else get them to work?
Any news on a fix, Zazzle?

I'm just a newbie amateur, but i'm getting a good bit of traffic and sales through twitter and I use tweetlater and tweetdeck and my links are shortened with bit.ly and i'm not witnessing a problem with referral links that you are speaking of. You can check my tweet stream to be sure, (and if i'm wrong set me straight) but it may be the third party twitter software that you are using..?

PRPrints wrote:That's interesting. I never noticed that the store name wasn't in the Twitter link. It is included in the "Link" html link. But the Twitter link does include the RF code, so you would think that should work.
But that's something else for ematson to confirm - should the GL code be included in the Twitter link?
The links I send with Twitter do take someone to the product page with my colours/formatting, etc., just as I would expect. However, the zbar isn't active, and I'm suspecting the referral code is stripped out, which means we don't get the credit. I just tested an old link to one of my products from Twitter, and the shortcut code comes up, then transfers directly to the product URL - no RF code.
I REALLY hope there's a way to get that fixed. But I don't know if Zazzle can work around it if it's a Twitter policy to strip out referral codes.
Any news for us, ematson?

I "asked" Google if Twitter allows affiliate links and one of the results that turned up was this: * Marketers. Affiliate Links in TwitterNow although the article debates the ethics and protocol of using affiliate links on Twitter, they are evidently allowed, according to that article. If this is correct, then it would leave me to believe that the problem is on Zazzle's end. Shame on you Zazzle for not disclosing this and letting us go on believing that promoting others on Twitter would get us referrals.

I just sent this email to prosellersupport:
I just opened a Twitter account last week. The main reason was to promote my Zazzle designs as well as other Zazzlers.
Yesterday, it came to my attention that the referral id# and zazzle star were being omitted from the links posted on Twitter. Is this true? If it is, is it a Twitter policy rule or is there something wrong with Zazzle's Twitter code setup?
A lot of us sellers are wondering this and want to know so we can re-think our promoting strategies.
Thanks
I will post the reply I get, here, when I receive one.

Here is the response I received from Zazzle Support:
Thanks for your email. Twitter does not support html so referral links will not work when copied directly from your product or promotion tools. However, there are web sites that can take your link, shorten it, and keep the referral data intact which you can then post on Twitter. I cannot recommend a specific site, however if you search google for: link shortener twitter, you are certain to find some.
I guess I'm wondering why Zazzle can't set it up so that the link shortener they mention is part of the promotion tools?

Hey folks! I'd recommend using the service bit.ly above TinyURL or other similar services. bit.ly offers custom URLs, so you can do a cool trick like this: http://bit.ly/campbellwtI've titled the shortened link something indicative of my product, rather than some weird code. Here's what the full link is: http://www.zazzle.com/campbell_water_tower_postage-172147133001877039?gl=erikpemberton&rf=238556993100141324The referral is in the full link and will register when the bit.ly link is opened. As an extra bonus, bit.ly offers tracking, so you can just add a "+" to the end of your link and see what's going on with it: http://bit.ly/campbellwt+ Since the "+" sign won't link up here, you can also do this: http://bit.ly/info/campbellwtBoth lead to the same page. Since Twitter doesn't support HTML, there's nothing that can be done on Zazzle's end to force the * or any other HTML in your tweets to link properly. Twitter does this to avoid exploits and attacks that could be run with executable code (like most phishing sites do). This method may be your best bet to track traffic, referrals, etc. via Twitter.

Thanks for getting that answer and sharing it azac69. I've been hoping for an answer on that for weeks - although it's not the one I was hoping for. Thanks, too, erikpemberton for the tip on bit.ly. I'll try them next time I'm a-twittering. Patricia PR Prints

This just isn't working for me. I just came up with an idea to help promote fellow Zazzlers on Twitter. (For those of you who've seen it, hope you like it and want to be included. For those who haven't, I'll explain in another thread tomorrow when I'm awake!) I posted links to about 10 different products. I used tinyurl - and didn't get the zbar. I switched to try bit.ly - and didn't get the zbar. Is there anything that works??? Hope I can help make sales for some fellow Zazzlers, but it still looks like I wouldn't get any referral credit for them, which is really frustrating because this *could* be a great way to enhance our income here. I was really hoping this could be a chance to help others while raising my earnings a bit. Has anyone found anything that does work consistently? (Quick preview - the posts are at www.twitter.com/standoutproduct if you'd like to try the links and see my new project before I get into the explanation tomorrow. If the zbar comes up for you on any of them, I'd love to know it.) Patricia PR Prints

I thought at one point Twitter was working with tinurl

Thanks for checking, Lori. It's just so frustrating. I checked back through my last few tweets on my regular PR Prints account, and some give me the zbar, some don't. I use the same process every time. I just don't understand what's going on.
I guess until we find something that works, I'll just carry on and hope that somehow I'll "luck" into a referral. At least it might help someone get a sale.
I haven't tried Facebook from Zazzle. I've used the Facebook "attach link" application, but I can't remember if it gives the zbar or not. I'll check later. Keep your fingers crossed.
But if anyone ever figures out a way to ensure the zbar from Twitter, please post it!

Oh, it gets much worse. I'm not getting the zbar on anyone else's products, even if I copy the code directly into the address bar. See my post here. HELP! Patricia PR Prints Edit: I've been told in the other thread that the zbar does only work on your own gallery and products. Not seeing the zbar, apparently, does not necessarily mean the associate ID didn't work and you won't get a referral. I feel a little more hopeful now. No way to be sure, I guess, unless someone buys something from one of the links, but gives more incentive to keep trying.

Oh booo! I just checked my twitter and I don't have the referral links.
I use the tweedfeed that zazzle has a tutorial on. That uses bit.ly, but there is no referral info attached.
I don't want to manually twitter my new products, I thought the tweetfeeds were a great idea. I guess it's still a good idea, just not a great one.

Have there been any updates on this? I like using Twitter, but have never gotten a referral from it nor do I see it showing up as a source of traffic on Google Analytics or Stat Counter. I do think it has increased my traffic, but that's just a theory at this point.
Patricia, if you're following this again/still - didn't realize you were Standout Product! Thanks for all the nice tweets. So, I clicked on your url and it took me to your site complete with the little asterisk - for a second. It disappeared as your site came up.
Bottom line, are we wasting our time on Twitter? I know I should do Facebook, but I'm confused by their TOS that say you can't have a business and a personal account. . .
Anyway, who believes in Twittering for Zazzle?
Thanks, Deb ha ha - follow me @lakeeffects!

My twitter links have the small ZBar. I'm not using my "star" linking, I was just posting the link I get from the Product Page. See: http://twitter.com/alrioart/Terry

See: http://twitter.com/alrioart/Terry Nope, Terry, when I click on one of the links in your tweets, it takes me to the item with the regular search bar, not the smaller Z-bar. Your profile website is not a Zazzle store (it's very cool!), so I can't tell whether that erases the star, too. Here is a funny thing I found today. My tweets from within Zazzle show this URL when I click on them: http://www.zazzle.com/railroad_tracks_painting_binder-127861967585260657My tweets from HootSuite (similar to TweetDeck)show the same URL. Once again, no referral in it however. So, if GA and Stat Counter don't indicate any Tweeter traffic (at least for me - let me know if yours shows otherwise) and we don't get referrals, is this a good promotional tool? Sorry for any confusion - I'm Woodswalker, too.

Wow - *yesterday* when I was reading this forum, it clicked through to the smaller ZBar. Today, like you said, it's the full header. :/ WTHeck? Thanks for the comment on the site! It *is* a Zazzle Store Builder site (tweaked!). http://alrioart.com/zazzle/Terry

Hi Woodswalker/Beachwalker/lakeeffects! Yes, I'm still here. Reading the forum instead of spending time on Twitter, where I should be. Not sure that I'm helping much, but I'm still hopeful someone will make a sale from my few efforts. It's discouraging, though, that we can't count on the referral going through. Definitely a concern that Terry was getting the zBar one day and not getting it the next on the same links. That's pretty much what was happening to me, too. (I don't check anymore - it just depresses me.) I wouldn't call it a waste of time - it's still promotion for your products, and hopefully royalties. It'd be nice to count on those referrals, though. I've only had ONE referral since I started this, and I can't see what that product was, so it's probably not one I tweeted. Can't tell if it's working but no-one's buying or if I'm losing out. But as I find time, I'll keep trying to help promote anyway. (I'd just be a lot more motivated if I knew it was working.) And none of my tweeted links (I use bit.ly now) show up in StatCounter. I think they are at least showing the Zazzle views now, though, but they didn't seem to be before. Bit.ly would say I'd have 10 hits, but Zazzle would show none. Now, I have a LOT of views on a few things I tweeted, so at least that's improving. But it's so hard to figure out if it's actually doing anyone any good or not . . . . Oh, doh! Patricia, you always think things through! I didn't think to go look at the stats on those products I had tweeted! **banging head on desk**
It's bumming me out that there are no referrals and no stats, but it's such a quick & easy way to get people to your store, I'll continue as well. It does attract a different audience, I think. I was happy to see that my twittering brought up my lakeeffects name higher on a Google search - guess I have to re-establish that website!
Thanks! Deb
