Todays Word: Fractal
frac·tal(frāk'təl) n. A geometric pattern that is repeated at ever smaller scales to produce irregular shapes and surfaces that cannot be represented by classical geometry. Fractals are used especially in computer modeling of irregular patterns and structures in nature.
In english, a true fractal is one where you could zoom in forever and the fractal would always look the same nomatter what.

That is sooooo beautiful. Well done Yeah, fractals use formulas to make them..mathematical patterns.. Here is a pretty good description and pictures at Wiki http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fractal

Try going here: http://www.fractalarts.com/ASF/Download.html. Scroll down to "Windows Fractal Programs" and pick which one sounds the most interesting. The best thing to do it to just take some time to experiment and get a feel for using the programs. You can't really say "well I want to make this kind of a fractal today". You just try things out, and when something looks potentially neat, you continue to explore that route until you come up with something that you like. At least that's how it is with me.

The fifth one down looked sorta like a cat at play to me. Waitaminit - these aren't those psycho-type fractal images (Raw-shock?) where I'm supposed to see naughty images, are they?

Lovely images! I know,me too. Never did understand the formula thing, my hubby enjoys math (the freak that he is) and likes to mess with the numbers and such. Some really great freeware fractal programs out there. I think Apophysis2 is his fav. Marianne

No... But I guess... if you want to see naughty images in there I can't really stop you now can I? BUT... I REFUSE TO TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR ANY NAUGHTY IMAGES THAT MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE BEEN PLACED THERE WHETHER IN WHOLE OR IN PART EITHER INTENTIONAL OR OTHERWISE BY THE ARTIST OR ANYONE ELSE.... There, that's my disclaimer...
