Well this is an extremely helpful article. Thank you!! When we're trying to find our way, it's always great to know others are willing to share wisdom from their experiences. It helps to promote a gracious "we can" attitude instead of "me versus everybody else"! Thanks for your help.

I have come back to read this and try to re-up my enthusiasm, I just feel like I am slogging thru endless mud currently on zazzle.

I want to thank Customizables for all the help here on zazle I have taken some of the suggestions and went to work on improving my store. Having said that I must also say that I have come to truely realise just how much of a time sink zazzle has become to me. Looking at the time versus pay off thus far it is clear I need to scale back my efforts and see if the 1000 plus designs and products net me anything or if I would be better else spending my efforts elsewhere more fuitfully. I am on the fense currently

It can really seem like a time sink at first, but trust me when I say it's worth it. I put in a lot of 14 hour days in the beginning, where I would work from as soon as I got up until I went back to bed on Zazzle, and with very little sales to show for it at the time. Later however, as my products got picked up by search engines and were more actively promoted by others, my sales increased, and I started making a steady income while only putting in a few hours of work per week.
I understand your frustration completely, and believe me, I've been there, but try to pace yourself and think in the long-term.

Hello, it looks like you know what you are talking about. Can I please ask you for some pro-zazzler advice? I've been running a store http://www.zazzle.com/artiful for about a month or so where I offer products with photography. I'm also intending to open another store dedicated to my drawings. (Ok, I wanted to start off with this store anyway but I've misplaced my CD with all my images..etc)Here's a sample: Do you think that I have a chance with the photos or should I focus on my paintings? Or is it a better idea to keep them up both? Or should I close the photo store and focus on my paintings? Any advice much appreciated Thanks. PS: If someone wants to promote this Puppy or any other of my images on a blog or lense or anywhere else, you are very welcome to do so.

You won't know what sells until it sells, so I recommend posting both. One of my most popular product lines is a little shop called "Happy Poo". It's all about a small round ball of poo with a happy face and his bathroom buddies, the Potty Pals. I started it as a joke with no expectations that it would ever sell, but less than 24 hours after listing my first products, I had sold a mug. It goes to show, you never know.
If you use good keywords to describe your stuff and design the products well, I see no reason why you'd have any trouble selling your artwork.

@Customizables Thanks for replying. That's exactly what I was thinking of too. I don't want to let down any of my shops but the photos and the drawings combined in one single store are a weird mashup. So I'm dedicating a seperate store to Puppy (and Co). I'll keep you updated

I just want to thank Customizables for this thread. I went to look at his/her store and realized that they have a wonderful looking store with just the normal zazzle settings - not using any special CSS sheets or anything. It was a relief because I was getting overwhelmed thinking that I was going to have to go through learning the beta advanced customization. But I see in the Customizables store that careful color choices and catagory building can make the zazzle store look terrific without the special HTML work.
Thank you!

I work mainly in photography, but on CP I have an image of a stick cow that has been my best seller. I don't make lots of money there, but the vast majority of sales I've made have been something with the stick cow on it. I need to start adding it to more products here, too, and see if it will start doing me as much good (or more) here as it did on CP. I also have had some stuff sell that I really never expected to get anything from. I once had "Bob the Happy Tomato". It was a picture of a real tomato slice, that looked kind of like a happy face. Put it on stuff at CP, and somebody actually bought a shirt with the picture on it, even though it's not a very high quality picture due to the camera I had at the time.

Thanks so much for this detailed helpful advice. It is a daunting thought to break into a new business that is already so populated. But I did sell some products by referral from my squidoo lenses so I am hoping someone will also want some of my own products when I get my store organized and with a higher inventory.
