I made a card and without checking the public or private choice, found that not only it was put in private, but it had someone else's icon on it! This is most puzzling to me. There is NOWHERE that instructs you how to get your merchandise OUT OF private without making/customizing a new product! Also, how on earth would someone else's icon instead of mine place itself on my card? I emailed the owner of the icon and he said that it has happened once before to him. PUZZLING INDEED! Any clues out there???

what do you mean icon? they dont put anyones icon on anything - other then the zazzle logo on the back - other then that the cards are blank and only have on them what you put on them - to make them public you have to open it click post for sale and fill out all the info on them - and mark them public not hidden

When I go into my private items, there is a title for the card in lower left with someone else's icon as I said, next to the description, above the product ID. It is not the picture of the lady that is my icon. I wish I could explain it better. Thre is no option after I click on it to post it as I already had. It only allows me to create and buy.

Did you create the card from scratch yourself, or did you start an already available template, one made by Zazzle or another shopkeeper? It's my understanding that if you use a template like that it won't let you post it for sale.
If not, then maybe it's some sort of glitch.

I think kalos_eidos is right. I just did a test, and if you select a template, then add your own elements, the only option is to "add to cart" (which I did know). Then, after clicking on "add to cart," I went to "private" to see if I was seeing what birdsongs is describing, and if you open the card, it says "created by" you but with someone else's icon - presumably the person who created the template.
The template designs are actually created by other Zazzlers, so we can't post them for sale, as the sale belongs to the person who created the template. All we can do is buy them - and that person gets the royalty. It's a bit of a misnomer to say it was "created by" you at all - you just "customized" it.
If you want to post a card for sale, you have to start with a blank card and use all your own design elements. You can even then make your own design a template to hopefully benefit from the same opportunity.

the templates are made by fellow shopkeepers are are only available for purchase they are not available for use in your stores. you may customize to purchase these items but the shopkeeper who made and owns the template will get the sale for it.

That is how a product created from another shopkeeper's template appears after customization. For instance, I wanted a new business card for my floral design business. None of my images were really what I wanted, so I went shopping here on Zazzle. I found the card design that I adored in The Flower Shop, customized it with my information and ordered it. It was her design, but I added my information, so it still shows under private in my shop, but it is not a public item I can sell. She received the royalty for the product as it was her design. I rather imagine if you click on the icon, it will take you to the storefront of the shopkeeper you got the original template from. You must create items you want to sell completely on your own, not with another shopkeeper's template. Sally~
