I've seen people with very specific niche stores, as well as people who put up everything under the sun with no rhyme or reason. I've seen both kinds of shops become successful. Which kind of shop works for you?

I tend to keep all my eggs in one basket (plus I'm to lazy to keep up with more than one gallery). I tend to specialize in cards and stamps but do have a small amount of other products just in case.

You couldnt pay me to have more than one shop...it may work for some but not for me. I have one store and keep it well organized. But that is just me

I have both. I started with one eclectic shop. I also have 6 other niche shops. 4 of them started because I had so many of a certain type of design in my main gallery that I thought they deserved to have their own specific gallery.
Although, I do try to keep my main shop well organized. I wouldn't say that it was without rhyme or reason.
They both work for me.

I'm like KRW .. I have both types ..all seem to work fine .. also with my stores that are aimed at certain sections of the community I can promote and advertise those in specialist areas and not have everything else in the way

Mine doesn't really have a theme. It's very wacky. But then I suppose everything is funny in one way or another. (either funny ha ha or funny odd)

For those with a single store, how diverse are we talking? Can you pretty much use an umbrella term to describe your store (such as art or humor), or do you have everything from 2008 Election to Breast Cancer to internet slang in your shop?

Hahphi, you have a really cool store! You do have many categories, but your designs have a common thread: they're so cute! Even your goth and punk stuff is adorable. So the whole store still seems to gel together very nicely.

Well, the reason I'm asking is because I actually have several hundred other designs that I COULD put up, but they aren't along the same 'New Age' theme. In fact, some of them are quite far from that theme. Originally I was thinking of opening multiple shops, each with their own specific subject matter... then I learned that you can only have one shop per account, and separate accounts means separate checks. I don't much care for that idea, so now I'm considering just putting everything up into a single shop.
However, I don't want it to be too off-putting for the potential customer. I've sold several items even though I've only been here less than two months, but I don't see a way to tell if those sales came from the Zazzle Marketplace or if the customers came to my shop and purchased items.

it's an eclectic store. i don't have any one kind of art. i don't think this is working for me though. i have only sold 3 things. but, i have and will always love my art! so, i don't get discouraged.

A magical store!
No, not really, but I wanted to say that. I have three galleries, one I haven't even looked at in some time (Pop Turtle), my first gallery is Trennea, and it is mostly the stuff I love, a bit funny, with drawings of people and places, then Candystore is food items, sweets mostly, and some animals...which is odd, because I am a vegetarian,
Really the only rhyme or reason is when I create something a feeling tells me where to put it.

A specialty store can be the easiest to advertise, because then you know exactly the kind of specific audience you're going for and most likely there will be locations on that particular subject around the net that are easier to find. And you can be sure that your advertising is relevant/helpful to the subject so not as spammy. An eclectic store is a bit harder to advertise since mostly you may only have artist directories or general sites to advertise on and at the same time these general locations will have more people to compete with than most other locations.
On the other hand keeping up with multiple stores is a chore so you also have to be realistic about what you can handle.
At the moment I'm starting with a specialty store (well in a couple of weeks when I've finished another project). And then a more eclectic store at a later date. Then I'll see how that goes before making any decisions.

Only the one, only planning to have the one.
As far as products go, I'm trying to hit as many as I can. (Except the tie... I can't figure out how to make my stuff work on a tie...)
But the artwork mostly has a consistent theme: aerial photography. I do have a few ground shots, but not that many, and they're marked. Not much interested in having a separate store for the ground shots. They're just REALLY low-altitude instead of kinda low-altitude. ;)
