I love Macs (I've had them since a IIci as well). My old Macbook pro just died, so I splashed out on an iMac with a trackpad. I took the old disk out of my laptop, put it into a dock, migrated everything from it and was up and running in 20 minutes, even to the Firefox pages I had been on when the old one died. Only 21.5" - I think I'd be blinded if it was any bigger!
The scrolling on the trackpad is great, and the quad processor really makes a difference with rendering!

That does sound awesome I must agree! I'm loving my MacBook Pro and when my old pc dies I will likely o to another Mac. I bought the 1:1 help, and have yet to use it, because I really haven't had anything to ask them so far...but yet I know there must be tons I don't know!
I think part of the problem is that it's in Toronto, and I have a mini-trek to get there, I thought at the time I wouldn't mind, and can go in on the train and bypass the traffic, but haven't made an appt. as yet. Partly it's due to not having an extreme need as yet...but I should go and get my money's worth. Grin There's lots of tutorials to help with stuff, and I have used them and the help menu.

@Artberry...yes, they are impressive, and expensive...but I'm hoping that in the end you get what you pay for! The only thing I don't like sometimes is the track pad is sensitive and does things I don't want at times, maybe that's the same with all trackpads? I've thought about getting a mouse, but I'll stick with it for now...I've gotten used to it to a point.
I ended up getting PSE 9 (then they came out with 10) and got a good deal on it, and also got ArtRage as I have heard it's good, but haven't done much with it yet.
It's just so nice to be able to take my Mac with me on my travels now....love it! I used to have to borrow my fiance's computer and it just wasn't the same, obviously. He's probably happy I've got my own now too!

Anyhow....back to waiting for products to show...lol! Laughing

I will be right there on the Apple band wagon with you very soon for I am about to throw this PC out of the window and that will be the last of the Windows in my house. I should have just listened to the right Steve to begin with.

LOL, I felt the same way. Finally, my darn PC died and I got to buy a Mac a little while back. It was kind of a blessing in disguise. I love, love, love it. I'll never go back to PC.

Things that I noticed when I switched. I don't have to load programs for everything anymore. I plug in my external harddrive and it just works with Time Machine (Oh BTW, my first mac had a problem with the wireless (but it was out of box), so they replaced the whole machine, I plugged in my external harddrive and it set up my computer exactly the way I had it all by itself...phew!). Another cool thing is the mail program is super easy. I don't have to look for silly codes online anymore to make the ports work. I can run a billion things at the same time and it rarely bogs down. When it does start bogging down, I usually just have to restart the program that is causing the problem and then everything is fine. It's very user friendly. It really didn't take me too long to figure out how to use it. The mouse is sensational. It scrolls all over the place. In a circle, from side to side, and obviously up and down. The only complaint I have about the mouse is that it is sometimes doesn't click properly because it thinks I'm trying to right click (it didn't do that in the beginning, I might have to trade it in for a new one) and it eats batteries like it's nobodies business. I have to replace them once per month. However, they do have a corded version, so I may just replace it with that. Everything is wireless, which is fantastic and it has a camera built into the screen. I just love that there is no tower; everything is in the screen.

Anyways, are those enough reasons to love a mac?

Have used a Mac for almost 15 years. Started with a high-end Mac G4 Tower, a real work horse, since died and now replaced with a 19" iMac. Expensive, but well worth the money overall. Only further cost is upgrading Creative Suite, so running with older programs. Since my work is primarily vector, not a real issue. For all you converts, it's about time. You will love the user friendly differance, and virtually virus impenetrable.

I have a question. If someone knows how to use a graphics program on a PC that is also available for a Mac, will the know how to use the Mac version or will they have to learn all over again?

If its something like Photoshop or Illustrator..then no..i cant speak for every program but most are cross platform (so they work on both systems exactly the same) but most are..so simply put..theres no difference..you will not have to learn many new things it is exactly the same program..apart from a few cosmetic differences.

You can try Gimp as a alternative for Photoshop and Inkscape for Illustrator. I use both of them when I am in office, away from my primary computer. They are no substitute for Adobe products but they are very light, and license free and also you have version for win and for mac.
Hope that helps Smile

p.s. you can download them from here :
GIMP
INKSCAPE

Happy Zazzling !

After spending $1200 on the latest and greated PC, only to have it crash a it week later (it ate the back up cd), I made the switch to Mac (for $500 more). There is no going back. I can create on Zazzle 4 times as fast as my old PC. Yes, I'll still use my old laptop because of photo files that are not compatable.
My grandfather always said that you get what you pay for. This is so very true. It was a bite to the wallet but really makes up for it by losing the frustration of dealing with the resource hog Windows.
If I'm not mistaken, you can get photoshop for Mac. There are great and cheap programs for the Mac and the transition does have a learning curve. Would highly recommend a portable hard drive, they work on both systems and are great for transferring files.

Another Mac user speaks up:

I have had macs since the Apple IIc. My present machine is a budget-watcher's delight. Go for the Mini-Mac! Spend $599.00 for the "slower" one. Plenty of storage. I use a HP monitor (23") that cost about $130.00. A 500 Gig Ext HD, (Now under $100.00), a $69.00 wireless keyboard and mouse, and I am working with all the goodies of a full-blown iMac for less than half the cost.

That's definitely a way to consider - I might have done that myself but the cables and other bits all over in my limited space would be a problem. A separate DVD player would have been essential for me (I hate being without install disks - even if I never use them!). Love my wireless keyboard and trackpad though.
The mini Mac does have the advantage over the iMac of only having to replace (or upgrade) one bit if it goes wrong.
