Can someone who has a better knowledge of plants than I have help me to identify these pretty purple flowers I photographed recently in an Italian garden? Trying to get my key words right! All suggestions appreciated!

Hi,
I just happened to see your question and this looks like

Solanum crispum glasnevin(chilean potato tree

The shade of the flowers can range from dark mauve/purple to pale lilac, and there is even a white variety. Try a internet search using this name and you will find a lot of pictures.
