I am preparing to self publish a novel but I don't know the best place to go through. Any suggestions?
Do you copyright or trademark anything in them?
How much money did you spend on the whole process of getting it published?
Do you have a zazzle store just for your book? feel free to share your link.
Can't think of anymore questions now but feel free to share any thoughts or ideas.
Thanks Roses

Yes! I love create space. Wrote a couple of books through them. They disribute them on amazon.com because they are a division of Amazon. Lots of exposure, they print when it sells. Excellent!!!!

Hi,

I'm in the process of doing this myself. If you want to do an ebook, you can upload directly to amazon, barnes & noble, smashwords (which can get your book into the istore, sony, diesel, etc). It shouldn't cost you anything for an ebook unless you pay someone to format to the different standards.

For print, you do have a couple different options. That's where the cost comes in.

Copyright, some people do, some people don't. I'm not in the US so I can't remember offhand how much you can pay for copyright. Somewhere between $50 and $65 I think.

Hope that helps some.

Thanks Lisa,
I think I am gonna go through Amazon. Saving up the money to do one of their package deals....
In the meantime, my daughter (roseroom) is going to make a manga style version for me too since she is a way better artist than me. I am really excited about it all.

Very welcome Smile

Depending on which genre you're in, you may want to do barnes and noble as well. I know some writers say they have better ebook sales over there for some reason.

Oh that's awesome, best of luck!! Roses

I haven't published mine yet, but when I do I will be using smashwords.com. They format and distribute to all of the major sites for you. All you have to do is use their template to format your manuscript and submit it.

I believe that Kerry (AKA KRWDesigns) also uses smashwords for her books. Which are doing pretty well for her. You might try asking her about it.

Children's books of dragon stories

The book I published with createspace.com and distributed on Amazon was "The Little Website That Could."

Go to www.copyright.gov to register copyright ownership. If you don't register your copyright you can't sue someone for ripping you off.

Do I have to register with your office to be protected?
No. In general, registration is voluntary. Copyright exists from the moment the work is created. You will have to register, however, if you wish to bring a lawsuit for infringement of a U.S. work. See Circular 1, Copyright Basics, section “Copyright Registration.”

I used to have to mail in DVDs or CDs with my photos on them to register them. A few years ago they set up a system that lets you upload the images from their web site. My guess is that you could also upload your book in .doc or .pdf format. You can also pay the fee online. The whole process is fast and easy.
