I don't care for Facebook, and until now, haven't made a fan page for my Zazzle designs.

Have you, personally, found that a fan page has been worth the time and effort, and effective for you?

I want to cover all my bases, but if Facebook fan pages (and Twitter) aren't hugely effective for drawing traffic, I'll stick with blogs and Squidoo.

It can't hurt to do a Facebook page. You can schedule your post so you don't have to worry about it everyday. Also from what I understand its good for SEO purposes. Plus I think its fun to interact with customers and other artist.

I didn't realize that we could have Pinterest boards specifically for the promotion of our own work. (In general, in my opinion, now that everybody is trying to sell stuff on there, it's kind of ruining the Pinterest experience.)

Thanks for sharing your Facebook fan page. I must say that you do some EXCELLENT work!

I just started a zazzle store with my illustrations so I'm not a pro seller or anything, but I've had some really good experiences with Facebook advertising. I choose to spend 2 bucks a day, and was getting anywhere from 20 to 50 likes a day with my film business.

So, I've just started another Facebook advertising campaign with my dragons store here on zazzle, and it is having similar response.

You want to make a Facebook page that is NOT just a bunch of zazzle products for sale. They can get that on your zazzle store. You will probably want to create a triple exposure model where you tweet new images or products and information on twitter, plus build a free wordpress or blogspot blog. Your Facebook page should have a specific audience in mind, and the ad you build should have a very short description that gets them to like your page. It should have a really crisp and interesting photo, too. Keep in mind it is going to be very small and appear in the column on the right so test different ad copy to see what you get. What happens, of course, is word of mouth viral.

You want to create posts on your Facebook page that encourage people to share your posts. That's how the big guys do it. They create content-rich copy several times a day, but not so much it is annoying.

It could be a really great quote with a nice, tranquil picture. Or it could be a recipe for the day, or something you are "giving" to them for free.

People on the Internet like to buy, but they want to feel they are getting something for free. It's been like that ever since I got on the Net in 1994. Some things never change. Why do you think those late night commercials for life insurance or the Craft-matic bed always seem to give a free gift? Because it works.

Host a contest. Maybe a photo caption contest. Find some of the biggest Facebook pages you can and find out what makes them successful. They post constantly, but not too much.

Some share cute animal pictures (huge interest in this) or life-changing quotes or whatever.

Then, once in awhile - post one of your Zazzle products. Maybe just one a day. People don't like to feel like they're being sold something, but they LOVE to buy stuff and justify it by saying they got something for free.

And Facebook followers are loyal. Very loyal. People like Anne Stokes, one of my favorite artists, has done well.

If you're an artist, post just images of your work or other artist's work. Then sprinkle it with a zazzle product or two.

Want to see a very popular example of this? Do a search on Drew Brophy, a surfer dude who does beautiful illustrations on canvas and surfboards. He has over 55,000 followers and now licenses his work around the world. He posts things he's doing. His latest illustration. Latest project. Links to his videos. He is constantly telling people where he is and who he is.

Some other great examples:
Brian Tracy
Think and Grow Rich
Pet Rescue Connection
Tip Junkie
Haley's Comet

I am a member of the Amazon Vine program where we receive free products and review them. Here's a great book I recently got from the program:

"The LIKE economy"
How Businesses make money with Facebook

Hope some of this is helpful to you.

You give alot of great advice, ArtHauntsMe. My facebook followers are mostly people I know in real life who never support my work or a few zazzlers. I have always wanted to get a blog going or a popular page but it is the topics I can't think of.

If you're not sure what "subject" would fit for your page. Just let your mind relax and go about your day. Then boom! It will come to you. Someone will say something or you'll read something that gives you a great idea that would fit with your zazzle store. The shower gives me great ideas! Lol. Laughing

A blogspot blog and a wordpress.com blog need to have more content than just Zazzle products. Both places can and will shut your blog down if it seems to be only advertising your products. Just thought I'd let newbies know, because it has happened to other shopkeepers.

Yes, you are correct. Really, any blog or Facebook page or website should have some real content. Some meat in it. It should not be a duplicate of your zazzle store.

It should enhance your store and just have a product sprinkled here and there or a widget on the left or right column

Very VERY good point.

always include your Twitter and Facebook badges, as well as a way to follow you by email. That's why I like blogspot of the two. The widgets are already built and easy to add.

Does anyone else have trouble figuring out these captchas???? I have to put them in about 6 times! Grrrr!

This can't be emphasized enough, especially for people who are new to this.

Read the book I recommended. It shows you exactly how to make your Facebook page compelling and content rich.

Another fantastic book on the subject:

Content Rules: How to create killer blogs, podcasts, etc....

Have fun!
