I've been away for quite awhile, until the past few days, so there are a lot of product lines available now that are new to me, including notebooks. (yay notebooks!)

I see some very positive reviews here on Zazzle for them, and I'm wondering if anyone's seen any thorough reviews on them on other sites. There seems to be a niche market for high-quality notebooks whose paper can hold up to abuse by ink that bleeds through most stuff. (e.g., http://www.fountainpennetwork.com, where people congregate who love fountain pens and drool over paper that doesn't bleed, shadow, or feather when put to the test--I checked reviews there to find good notebooks whose paper my Stabilo fineliners wouldn't bleed through.)

I ask because I saw that the description says Zazzle's notebooks use 90gsm paper, which is the same density as Clairefontaine's--and CF makes some of the best paper out there. Would love to see some of those fp enthusiasts test out our notebooks!

I'm also curious about the spacing, thickness, and darkness of the lines.

cheers Happy

I like this idea probably because I, too, love paper. That's a cool link to a good forum that you posted. I haven't ordered a notebook yet. I need to... I'll take it with me on my upcoming trip to Vienna and Venice.

I have ordered stationary. I used the Basic Paper. I wish I had changed the paper type. The Basic is a bit heavy for stationary. should have tried the linen, I guess. The paper size is smaller than I thought it would be... but that's just because I didn't pay attention to the measurements. I really like the printed design (my own product) and it came out looking like a page from a children's book, but it needs to be printed on both sides to look right. The printing is on one side only since Zazzle doesn't offer two sided printing for stationary. I have a watercolor design covering the whole page. So, with this experiment in ordering, it's not yet there to where I'd brag about it on a site like you linked to.

If you get updates on the notebooks and find out anything, like if the fp people do try them out, let us know, please.

Isn't Linen thicker than Basic?

I'll definitely post a link if I come across any reviews. If these notebooks turn out to be good even for fountain pens, it'd be great to know so we can advertise them as such. Happy

Guess I ought to fire up my good fountain pen and test out this stationery. I think the linen is lighter weight. Maybe this basic is good after all, since it's pretty thick. I've got some really good fountain pens. I'll let you know after I try it out. Smile

That forum is probably a good place to get established or to advertise. People who are stationery and paper aficionados can be very loyal.

Haven't ordered the notebook that I'll be taking with me yet... actually haven't made it yet. I will soon, though.

I wrote up a review on the notebook I bought if you want to check it out. I'm not exactly a dis-interested party since I reviewed my own design, but I don't exactly do kittens and rainbows reviews either!

Ooh, thanks for sharing, Beachwalker! The photos are helpful--looks like the lines are thin but pretty dark, and that seems like quite a wide gutter margin. I like your suggestion for more paper options--I actually really like the less-common dot grid style (gives you the effect of graph paper but you just have dots where the lines would meet instead of the full lines, so it's less intrusive), and everyone's got their own preference, not always lined.

Which tip width does your Micron pen have? The paper seems to have held up very well against that, and even against the uniball (I tried one of those at work and found it too prone to bleeding for my taste, but looks like it mostly just has some shadowing on this notebook).

You're welcome, byrdgirl13!

I was using a .1 Micron only because I couldn't find a fatter tip one. I did just try with 1 Micron and it's still good to write on both sides.

An ultra fine point Sharpie is more visible from the other side, but not too bad. I think anything that is really wet ink will be just fine.
