Most of you have probably heard about this but if not you need to check this out or you might lose internet access in July. It also affects Macs as well as Windows. Click here to see if you are infected. The check is run by the FBI.

I had a DNS switcher at one stage not long after I bought my current computer I think I either picked something up in the very short time before I installed anti-virus software, or AVG didn't detect it.
However it was pretty obvious something was wrong because AVG wasn't updating properly and I'd go to some innocent website and end up getting some weird malware page or dodgy looking porn site lol
Luckily I managed to get rid of it with Malwarebytes which seems to be one of the few anti-virus programs which detects and corrects the registry entries DNS switchers create.

I use malwarebytes, and feel it is a good program.

I thought malwarebytes was a good program until microsoft security essentials caught a virus that malwarebytes missed.

I came through green. I think I was infected with a DNS switcher awhile ago, can't remember how I got rid of it. Or actually, that might not have been it. I was infected with something, and it was only on Mozilla. I'd try to go to a site and get redirected to something else. I quit using Mozilla and used Chrome and I was fine, but I could never get rid of the infection. I tried Malwarebytes, and some other stuff. Could never get rid of it. I eventually bought a new laptop (needed it anyway because Dell is horrible). I have Avast installed on my computer now (paid version) and I love it. Hopefully won't run into issues.

Does Malwarebytes detect the particular threat mentioned by the OP, or is that not known?
I seem to remember reading that Malwarebytes isn't a normal anti-virus program and it is something else, and it could be that you can use it with AV programs like Avast, I think some people recommend not to have two normal AV programs running. So MBAM doesn't have to be used instead of other programs as it is not an AV?

I know they use malwarebytes to clean infected computers at work, but it functions more as a cleaner than a preventer........
