Can anyone tell me how to group like products together; eg: ties with ties. So far I have been unable to find any way of organising the store, which, at present, has everything mixed randomly.

You need to make categories and move what you want into them. I suggest organizing by theme/design instead of product type.

Some organize by product type and others by design. I do a combination.
Check out Z University for directions on how to create categories.
I always upload an image for each of the categories so that the shop looks nice.

I have subject categories, but I also have the product as the first word in my title:
Hat - Calendula T-shirt - calendula Tie - Calendula
This way - if someone does a word search for Calendula - all like products will show together.
Try a search on my main page to see what I mean. Some likely terms - lion, brick, peacock, etc.
