Hi,

I am finally ready to share my own modified version of the referral link builder bookmark after several weeks of testing.

It is just like the standard referral link builder button but with an added tracking code at the end. You just need to replace "yourcodehere" with your own tag/title/description before you copy the link. The info is included in the bookmark.

It has been tested with referral sales and each referral sent out using the link has included the tracking code every time. Three shopkeepers have tested it for me also and i am glad to say it is working 100%. You can actually verify the link once activated if you have any doubts.

To add the bookmark just do the following:

- Create a new bookmark

- Enter a name, I call it Awesome RF but you can call it whatever you like

- Under location insert the following with no spaces:

javascript:var%20_a%3Dwindow.zPage%3Bif%28_a%29%7BUize.module%28%7Brequired%3A%27Uize.Url%27%2Cbuilder%3Afunction%28%29%7B_a.ensureLoggedIn%28%7Bcallback%3Afunction%28%29%7Bvar%20_b%3D_a.get%28%27user%27%29%2C_c%3D_b.id%3BzPage.inform%28%7Btitle%3A%27Zazzle%20Referral%20Link%27%2Cmessage%3A%27Page%20you%20are%20linking%3A%5Cn%27%2Bdocument.title%2B%27%5Cn%5CnYour%20Associate%20ID%3A%5Cn%27%2B_c%2B%27%20%28%27%2B_b.handle%2B%27%29%5Cn%5Cn%27%2B%27Insert%20your%20tracking%20code%20at%20the%20end%20of%20the%20link%20below%20and%20then%20copy%3A%5Cn%5Cn%3Cinput%20type%3D%22text%22%20style%3D%22width%3A95%25%22%20onfocus%3D%22this.select%28%29%22%20value%3D%22%27%2BUize.Url.resolve%28_a.getUrl%28%29%2C%7Brf%3A_c%2Ctc%3A%27yourcodehere%27%7D%29%2B%27%22%20%2F%3E%27%7D%29%7D%7D%29%7D%7D%29%7Delse%7Balert%28%27Sorry.%20Unable%20to%20create%20a%20Zazzle%20referral%20link%20on%20this%20page.%27%29%3B%7D

- Save or Add.

Hope it helps.

Thank you so much!! That's awesome, your explanation is really straight forward ( I know nothing about those things!! and it was really easy for me to set it up!)
That bookmark is saving me so much time instead of entering everything manually, great to track where the referrals come from and where to focus on!
Thanks again, you're a genius!

Forgive me, I'm new. I'm familiar with the idea behind the regular "referral link builder" (a Javascript bookmark that tacks your ?rf=whatever onto the end of the URL you're currently viewing), but what is this new "tracking" feature and how does it work?

Do I just replace "yourcodehere" with any text string I want, then it'll show up in the referral reports (or whatever they're called; haven't used/seen them yet), so I can tell where referrals came from?

For example, I use "ABC" for some, "DEF" for others, then the report will have referred sales totals for each of these two text strings? Or do you mean something else?

Sorry for my lack of knowledge; I'm just starting out.

@colonel_magnum,

Thanks for bringing that up, it is something that i should have explained in my last post for people who are new to promoting.

Yes you are correct, this is a javascript bookmark referral link builder that automatically grabs the link and attaches your associate id on a Zazzle store, page, product etc. when you are signed in to your account

This modified version of the bookmarklet includes a tracking code at the end of the link "yourcodehere" that you simply replace with your own text to know where that specific referral came from.
Once a sale has been made using that generated link it will then be visible in the Referral History section under the Earnings tab of your account.

Here is an example of how it works:

Here is a product from the National Geographic store that i would like to promote:

http://www.zazzle.com/a_jaguar_on_the_prowl_postcard-239113601538024314

When i click the bookmarklet it will automatically generate the link with my associate id and tracking code:

http://www.zazzle.com/a_jaguar_on_the_prowl_postcard-239113601538024314?gl=NationalGeographic&rf=000000000000000000&tc=yourcodehere

Before i copy and paste the link an a blog, website, facebook etc. I replace "yourcodehere" with my own text:

http://www.zazzle.com/a_jaguar_on_the_prowl_postcard-239113601538024314?gl=NationalGeographic&rf=000000000000000000&tc=nationalgeographic

If a sale is then made through that link, be it that product or any other product from Zazzle, in the Referral History section under the Earnings tab you will see the following:

A jaguar on the prowl.
XXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXX
XXX-XXXXXXXX-XXXXXXX
TC: nationalgeographic

It is a very useful tool and makes your life that much easier, i hope it helps.

That's what I suspected you meant. That sounds pretty excellent. So if you wanted to promote that same National Geographic product on, say, three blogs and two forums, and gave each a different "tc" string, your sales reports would show the five different sources, even though it's just one product and just one associate ID (yours).

I told my pal about that; he works on sales analysis/charting/reporting/etc. for an enormous Fortune 100 household name corporation. He said that this sort of "breakdown by referral channel/source" functionality in sales reports is something that most non-Internet marketers would kill to have, but for them it's usually not possible (how do you know if someone bought your product because they saw a radio ad, TV ad, newspaper ad, etc.? You don't, there's no automatic mechanism to collect that info. You can do surveys asking this, but few people fill them out.)

So, this sounds really powerful. Thanks for it!

By the way, M, a lot of your other posts are helping me too, as I build my first store. Thanks again, for all the info, not just this referral thing.

I'm very new to Zazzle, but I hope eventually that I can give something back (clever tricks, whatever) to help you folks in return.
