I am so onfused as to where they are bound that I am too confused to ask the question correctly Ok I'll try. When you want to make the note pad, the small one is the default. You click to make it the big one, You see in the small picture that it looks vertical, but when you go to make one it is horizontal. I am really confused on where the design and text placement should be. Has anyone figured this out?

I'm confused about that too. But I just realized every page gets printed and the pages can be torn off, so I'm guessing it's on the top of the horizontal view
edit: now I'm starting to doubt, just read the description again. It says: side tear-away pages , so maybe it's on the left side of the horizontal view???

I don't suppose it really matters. I put a vertical design on one turned through 90°, and used one of the side views as the preview.

I think I am just going to do the small ones as I am afraid to inadvertantly put the design on upside down I'd like to know how the design is going to look on the pages. Thanks

If you look at the magnified image, it looks like they are horizontal and the glue edge is at the top; At least that looks like glue up there I could just be seeing things

It's easier to see on the side views - looks to me like the gummed edge is on one of the long sides, top when turned horizontally and left when turned vertically.

What worries me more about the notepads is that there´s a lot of SKs wasting time putting photos etc on them, maybe Zazzle should have made it more clear that the design will be shown on ALL pages, and you are supposed to be able to scribble notes on them ... Unless those are meant to serve a different pupose, and I´m missing a point here?

I'm glad you pointed that out, Hilly, thanks! I was one of the people who got busy creating under the assumption that it was a cover image to be filled with a design, same as many other products. I've started deleting those and replacing them with more appropriate designs. Maybe a few others will also see your post and will do the same.

Not to mention the disappointed customers when they find they can't write on the pads. Thanks again for doing your bit in getting the message out.

You could always add a white translucent layer to the design if it covers the entire writing surface. I put a couple of layers of translucent white (40 - 50% transparent) so the background is visible but shouldn't obscure the writing on top. The customer can remove a layer (more image showing through) or duplicate a layer (to make more faint), as required. Here's an example : http://www.zazzle.com/black_and_white_panda_sits_eats_bamboo_notepad-133129211513578062?gl=DigitalDreambuilder

Who uses notepads with the binding on the side? I have only been making the small ones, it is way less confusing that way.

I've bought school lined notebooks at the drug store that have that gummed binding along the left side, instead of spiral binding, so it must be like that. Alina Alina's Pencil: whimsical words and pictures

I'm still confused by this, had settled on the idea they are glued on the long side suggestng landscape design, but I see a portrait design notepad got a tba today suggesting otherwise?

I think ruralfrance is right. It probably doesn't matter on which side they are glued. The pages can be torn off, so it's not like they have a cover which opens up. It would be nice though, if Zazzle would respond here and tell us which side is glued!

I've bought one of the small variety - the glue is on the top edge and the design is repeated on every page. Use enough translucent / transparent white layer(s) to make sure any handwriting is easily readable. See what I mean on the one I purchased:
